Cobs are more than slightly inferior to normal horses, I'm afraid, for the following reasons;
1. They are ugly, short and smell like wet dogs.
2. They have more hair than a yak/musk ox cross, and have filthy, mite-ridden feathers.
3. If you have ever wondered why there is a 'track' dug into the surface of your school, it's because cobs have dragged their heavy, idle feet round, ploughing up the surface.
4. They are only suitable for novice riders - once you learn to post to the trot, you really ought to progress to a proper horse - it's like children sucking dummies at 6yrs old.

Have you ever sat on a Quality Cob which can move from the shoulder (not stuffy or moving like a sewing-machine) - and can really gallop? I have hunted many and shown even more of them. No, not only suitable for Novice Riders. I have sat on Cobs which were a more difficult ride than many TBs. I rode racehorses for years - a really good Cob is on par. Go and sit on a good one and then come back - to apologise. Ask Lynn Russell.

I have to admit that I don't even venture into the Picture Gallery on here, in case I accidentally see a picture of a cob (can you believe someone even asked me to do a conformation critique on one, as if it were a proper horse!).

My last horse was a cob. The evil little swine took off with me twice and put me into Casualty. I now have a nice sensible TBx.

Re the OP- each to their own. I agree with Puppy, the defensive cob posts seem to crop up a lot and people are always happy to bash TBs and WBs... you can't have it both ways!

I love the general misconception about cobs. I own a HW cob who is piebald to boot and hes stabled on a dressage yard. People see him under saddle and soon change their opinion

A properly schooled up cob can give a WB a run for their money any day and have so much more personality. My boy competes BD at elementary level and it sure does shock some people when they see him being dragged off a lorry with a load of WB's. *hehe*

I'm also a big WB lover too.

Reminds me of a book I have somewhere from years ago, nice illustrations: The Wednesday Pony by Primrose Cumming. Basically 2 kids get to ride their family cob only on Wednesdays after school as the rest of the week he's pulling the family butchers cart delivering meat, and Sundays is a day off. The 2 kids hanker after something more glamourous, and indeed get one to ride, but nothing is as good or reliable as 'Jingo' (great name for a cob) who saves the day with his stamina and obedience when they get into bother.
