Am seriously coveting a gorgeous shire x mare we have in at the moment, now where do I find that millionaire...

Or there is the beautiful hunter type with the slightly loose screw (sad, sad story, poor thing - he has excellent reasons for being a tad delicate) - now if he would just come right.....

Ahhh to be a millionairess

hehe...this thread is such a laugh!

Shills, your wicked sense of humour is fantastic, its a shame someone told CC you're a windup merchant!

p.s. you can do a conformation crit on my welsh D when ever you're free

I havent got any pics of him on the PC, as I dont have a scanner

He was fabulous though, he was shown before I had him and he was really well put together, made me very happy every time I looked at him

Unfortunately he didnt wish to jump higher than 2'3" though, story of my life I think

Reading most of the garbage people type on this forum, and with a large majority being terrified of this that and the other relating to their horses.

I think most of them would be much better with a cob which they would enjoy, be able to ride and have a stress free time!

lol, I dunno, they can be stubborn gits when it suits them - I think you need a certain firmness of purpose with a cob or they just walk all over you

i think you really are nothelping this thread at all :S

I like to look at cobs, there are some very nice and not so nice examples out there (as there are for all breeds and horse types) i own a WB and i would own a cob because personally i dont like them, but i wouldnt be rude about WB owners or cob owners. being so rude about WB owners merely makes you a hypocrite

Hmm,not sure I agree with that.
For some, the issues are in their head and would be there whatever horse they are on and the perfect confidence giver could be a cob....it may well be a TB or dare I say it a WB.
Whatever breed you prefere there wil be a horse of that breed who suits you, just a matter of finding him
laugh.gif

I'm a TB girl, and if the child ever stops spending my cash before I get my hands on it will be going for an ex racer, just love them to bits!
Have known a horse who ran in the grand national twice that was sweet natured enough to pop a toddler on and cobs who gave the RI's a run for their money......there was a saying I was looking for but cant quite put my finger on it ...

I don't prefer any breed tbh, I own a WB but was looking for a cob initially. Bobalicious suits my needs - he's mostly sane and sensible and we can both only hack as we've both had bad knee problems. Oh and Brucie Bonus - he was cheap as chips because of the knee injury.

I just get annoyed when people start slating other breeds - sounds like sour grapes IMO.
mad.gif

As for breeding, I think if you really dig into the genetics of native breeds you'll find some European blood in there from 100's of years ago.

I dont slate any breed tbh, but currently i own a Belgian warmblood! A coloured cob, a throughbred and her tb x warmblood foal!

I am not biased in any shape or form.

But the cob has been far the easiest and most confident in his outlook to life.

I am a proud owner of a welsh cob and loan a coloured cob and i adore them. People prefer different types, we are all entitled to our preferences and opinions but why be so derogatory!!!! My welsh cob has done workers, dressage, showing, driven.. you name it he's done it.
As for those who refer to their welsh's as sec d's as they dont want to refer to them as cobs tell them to go to the royal welsh show, they use the terms welsh mountain pony, sec b, sec c and welsh cobs. They should be proud to own such a verstatile horse.
I would never choose to own anything but a cob!

We are trying to establish what my cob has been taught and when a friend of mine rode him, she said he hadn't been educated, she seemed unsurprised as he was "just a cart horse".

I can see both sides, your average cob may not get the benefit of a well schooled life because of the variations of home background he could have came from but I guess the same can be said asuming a TB to be an exracer.

There is too much snobbery with horses. Its an animal and it respects you enough to let you sit on its back and work for you - enjoy it and stop trying to outdo each other.

Can anyone tell me why its JUST a cob? Are cobs slightly less inferior horses?

[/ QUOTE ]

Cobs are more than slightly inferior to normal horses, I'm afraid, for the following reasons;
1. They are ugly, short and smell like wet dogs.
2. They have more hair than a yak/musk ox cross, and have filthy, mite-ridden feathers.
3. If you have ever wondered why there is a 'track' dug into the surface of your school, it's because cobs have dragged their heavy, idle feet round, ploughing up the surface.
4. They are only suitable for novice riders - once you learn to post to the trot, you really ought to progress to a proper horse - it's like children sucking dummies at 6yrs old.
5. They have short, choppy strides, and feel as though their death is imminent whenever you manage to force them into a laborious, ground stomping canter.

I never understand why anyone would want to own one.
Tb's, and Warmbloods rock.

Why don't people buy and ride BRITISH horses/ponies?
Is it because they can't ride them??

[/ QUOTE ]

My WB is a British Warmblood - but look at any list of breeds on any horse website and you'll be hard pushed to find them listed!
mad.gif
So yes, I can ride a British horse!!!
grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, perhaps my original statement was not that clear.
Yes, it might be British BRED - BUT the WBs originally came from Europe.

[/ QUOTE ]
Aren't hunters the original WB? And what about the ISH?
Actually, considering the number of TBs present in WB pedigrees (Lord and Ladykiller right of the top of my head) I've decided that WBs are no more European than they are English
smile.gif
AND considering how many TBs are bred into the QH lines, I think they're English as well. Of course it COULD be argued that the TB is of middle eastern origin...

Edited to add random ramblings

Edited again because once I checked my facts, Lord was in fact a Holsteiner (but 50% TB nonetheless)

When I read number one, I thought I'd stumbled on an exmoor thread. God the stink when he's wet!! It would offend his mother!

Numbers 4 and 5 apply, too, but I have roller skates to counter number 4.

Omg I have laughed so hard at Shilasdair's description of cobs that I almost fell off my chair at work!

I would like to point out that I have attempted to address the points raised as follows:-

1. I have groomed my cob within an inch of her life and sprayed her with perfume - also considering platform horseshoes for the furture.

2. She has been clipped, her feathers washed and an eviction order has been given to the mites.

3. After schooling her I now run back into the school and brush over offensive track marks thereby removing all trace of her heavy feet.

4. I now pretend that I am a novice when I ride her by climbing on the wrong way, waving my arms and elbows arround dramitcally and falling off all the time.

5. Cantering has now become out of the question and we have decided that the only pace suitable is either a nice slow walk with lots of stops for food or an impossibly fast trot.

The only downside to taking this kind of action with my cob is that now she has delusions of granduer and due to all the stops for food her belly is the side of a small country!

Thank you for pointing out her shortcomings though and I hope that I can continue to try and put them right.
