It's officially Thursday afternoon! Weekend plans?

fab pics LP! super Ruby strikes again <3

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

I survived the wedding ( I really don't do social occasions!) and took Kira for some arena hire as planned today. I wish I'd had time to school her a little yesterday as she's always a bit tricky after a day off, but having made the effort to get out and about, we used the opportunity to ride through some tests.

AM98 is not as difficult as first thought (phew) lost a bit of activity in the canter HP, they are the steepest she's had to do so far, so not a surprise and just need more practice. Obedient changes and the trot didn't close up too much. Not as through as she can be but Ok for a work in progress

And then in my wisdom i thought we ought to have a go at A100, she had done nearly an hour's work by this point so was a bit tired! but it was a proof of concept thing... no rush at all but good fact finding. Had to pause in the middle of the canter as we had a crow invasion during which she got her tongue over the bit :o
I think I know where the weak spots are and they are all fixable, we just need to keep on doing what we're doing really. Main things today (aside from running out of petrol) were simple changes need to be more organised and forward, the loops on the 5 loop serpentine need to be more through so I can get her straight to ride the changes and then we won't have a mistake. That should come together as part of our other 'stay forward on 10m circles' programme of work!
The 4 tempis will be fine I think, it's mainly the boring bits that join up the movements that are difficult to ride well enough these days. Funny little thing! :o

I think this has made a couple of things fall into focus for me, the school where we are at the yard is really making it difficult to keep the momentum in her training because it's always full of jumps and poles so I find it hard to stay focussed on riding correct lines as they appear in tests. We have to slot a half pass in where there is space, for example, rather than being able to aim from one letter to another and ride a defined line. Which means either more regular (twice weekly?! ) arena hire, or move yards.. hmmmmmmm.

Good luck all :o

Made a start on our eventing career today ;)

That's a cool pic :)

Love the videos milliepops... wow.

Our forest ride went ahead yesterday, but baby pony was a bit of a pain, he got really excited on the way back (as we hadn't trotted as much as we normally do, and our mare got a bit far ahead of him). Unfortunately when riding in company things don't always go according to plan. Will have to go back again just the three of us and phsh on a bit more...

XC lesson cancelled because of the weather/ground, and though we had a lovely time with friends, I feel like on the horsy front it's been a bit dreich :(

Thanks MP - She sure does, i feel like i gush about her a lot but she really is a star <3 (so i don't care :P )

Kira is just so awesome, that tail coat is within touching distance now, you must be so proud of her!

I know what you mean about the school, ours is only small 20x50 and never has jumps in, my friend has a school the is 35x65 and always has jumps in and i'd choose mine over hers any day, despite the fact that i could do with jumping more often!

Could you see how it goes, time/ cost wise of hiring a couple of times a week and then assess whether it is worth moving? Would your yard not have the jumps away as standard then if people want to use them, they get them out? We have no jumps out as standard then every so often they'll stay out for a week so people can jump without putting them away, then they go away again.

Hehe keep on gushing! Gotta love an enthusiastic bay mare ;) what's next on her calendar?

I wish we could come to that arrangement at the yard... I'd never been on a yard where the jumps get left out until I came here. Before now it was manageable because the little details weren't so important but now it's starting to give me a headache! Luckily I don't have to pay for the one I used today but it's about 25 mins away by the time you box up. Hoping to find something closer...Will have to suck it up in the meantime :p

Me too, little bay mares are the best - but i would definitely make an exception for little Kira! We are at Bricky BE next weekend for our first BE long arena test (i didn't realize they even had 20x60's at this lowly level of eventing so that'll be interesting. Hoping to get our last MER so we can do the BE100 at Tweseldown in October that'll be out last if it goes well, if not we'll head to Bovi of TD UA for a nice run :) Then a winter of dressage and showjumping - it never really ends does it!? :D

Ahh that's a shame :( such a minor thing, but one of those annoyances that really builds, i'm sure its not just you who finds it irritating, surely no one needs the jumps EVERYDAY!?

Good that its free, but a bit of pain none the less!

Wheres Kira off to next? I'm so rooting for your A100 Plan! :D

brill pics Leannepip and brill videos milliepops - Kira is looking fantastic

It's amazing what you get up to when you have time on your hands (ie not riding). This morning I strapped the new boy - isn't he shiny? I don't really like to bath my guys too often because they live out most of the time but he scrubs up pretty well with a decent groom.

then by this evening he looked more like himself lol

Oh no Wheels! The ungrateful toad!

Yeah little Kira has surpassed my expectations somewhat.. .plenty to work on as usual but she's enjoying the harder stuff, just has to remember to do the inbetween bits with the same enthusiasm :biggrin3:

She's off to Summerhouse on Friday for M75 and AM98 then it's an overnighter at native champs the following week.

Wow he looks fabulous! Still looks like a sleek summer coat! <3

Oh bless her, she's only got time for the fancy foot work!

Frankie was very welsh! He had a bit of a panic entering the collecting area at one end of the indoor with everyone else as there was a lot of people in there, and music (he remains a bit funny with that at times) so had to wait outside in the rain . He then proceeded to piaffe whenever going under the speaker. The steward was a good friend of mine who said she didn't know he could be like that having known him for 13 years!

Because we didn't actually do anything in the concours class other than trot a circle (I did reply that no, on this pony I would not be more elegant sitting it's like trotting a bouncy of a bouncy thing, always has been :p) he didn't settle. He was much better in his champs class but feeling a bit stiff as a result of the weather, tension and lack of hack down as it was dark, though he seemed to have a nice jolly round. We got some lovely rosettes for coming last as we expected (though I do think the new forest that had to be beaten round it's individual show was worse, at least mine went :D and didn't buck and hump it's way round :p ). I'm waiting for the 'will be sent early sunday' photos....

I anticipate that may well be his last jolly but he did look smart even though my friend did get very liberal with the glitter... it's a good job I have show only reins as they may never be the same again!

This was his sunday morning sorting of the situation.

I'll put poncy pics up when I have them!

Sounds like everyone hasn't had a good weekend!

LP: lovely photos! Well done!
MP: I just love Kira, she's looking fab in this episode videos!
Wheels: he looks gorgeous, and very shiny indeed! What's a handsome boy!

They were weren't they :) I think outlook not working today is probably causing pro pic receiving issues so this will do for the time being. He actually looks a lot more reasonable in the video than he felt, you can just see how twitchy he is in his walk back to line. I don't think being expected to stand straight away when you are being momentarily welsh suits ;). I did feel a bit sorry for him really as it's been ages since I've had him not take something in his stride. But we were all stood quietly in the dark under the horse walker roof outside and then everyone moved together and there were so many people/kids and small ponies in the 5x20 collecting area who clapped because the last class just finished (that and hard nut life (twice) and firestarter were not really helpful music!)

Going in for M+Ms I asked for space and walked him straight through and the person in front was one of those who is very keen to tell your their pony is a stallion (:rolleyes3:), I didn't reply well yeah, that's what you have a disc on for :p, they aren't another species and what do you think my 24yo gelding is going to do to it exactly? :D

FW - going great guns, love the pink hi vis showing off her fabulous cobby bottom

LP - definitely keep gushing about Ruby, you are such a fabulous combination, to have brought her on in such a textbook way in such a short timespan you are clearly an amazing match, as much as she is a seriously smart horse

MP - your advanced dressage competition horse seems to be emerging from out of that little cobby body :o shame about the current school situation though, but I guess if you need a cleaner workspace then that has to be a priority - there's no point getting to that level of work and then feeling like you're not really doing yourself justice

Wheels - crikey, he does look good (in the first picture I mean, the little grubmonster)

Ester - wow, you both look class, and his socks are oh so white :eek3:

They weren't, I thought I had chalked and bandaged sufficiently, he was reattacked by my friend who was supposed to be ill on arrival while she whinged at my lack of show kit (I thought he was ready when we left home which was only 5 mins in the trailer, we usually hack when it isn't dark). I think she used every bit of chalk I had and that was before she hit the glitter!

Haha, well it worked (though I own a westie so my idea of white is anyone else's muddy puddle, so I'm easily impressed :p)
I have to ask though, what do you do with the glitter? Where does it go? Is this normal or are you just out to bring the sparkle to the showground? (Sorry, amateurish questions)
