Sorry to hear about all of the sicknotes, I do hope they all heal well.

We have a lesson with super-instructor tomorrow which I can't wait for. I feel like we are plateauing at the moment; we are nicely cracking on with the elementary work but I don't think the frame is where it needs to be yet for ele at real live competitions. I am trying desperately to morph myself into an elegant dressage rider but currently still look like a little gremlin hunched on her back which no doubt isn't helping things.

Hoping to hack on Sunday, both of us are dreadfully bored of the same 4 walls of the indoor!
 
Discovered Toby DOES have a gallop. The key is to stick him behind a super excited Dolly in a big open field and set Dolly off at speed. That woke him up! However 30 seconds after we finished he was ambling on the buckle again while Dolly danced and snorted. He is a very easy horse!

Well part 1 of my weekend plan went well as the horse jumped really well this afternoon- started with the same course as last week with 1 extra fence in and then reversed it and went up a hole and she was good that way round too. We might be getting somewhere, though her default is probably always going to be spooky and then she looks down at her fences which makes her either jump silly big and balloon them or drop her legs into the fence and have a rail. She has all the physical ability so I wish her brain would make it easier for her body!

We had a brilliant morning show jumping. We did an 80 and a 90, our first time out this year and Coolies first time out in 12 months! I wasn't sure how we would go given older horse, big break, pregnant but ya know, just gotta get on really. And I wanted to go to at least one show this year!

Needn't have worried at all, Coolie is an old hand and I am riding better than ever so things feel brilliant and easy. I might do a full write up (with a video, if I can get it. It is being live streamed!) but I'll leave you with a preview...

In other news, Henrys leg is looking miles better, lets hope it stays that way. Still have a bit of effort ahead to keep it looking good and lower the infection risk. UGH horses
 
Very fancy rosette! Would love to read a write up ?

I'm not up to much, other than the usual spring jobs. More road hacking practice for pebbles, and yesterday Arts was nominated for the yearly adventure down the bridle paths in my area for the larks of seeing what the landowners have come up with to block-but-not-block them this year. This year we had: 1) diverted through a bog up to her hocks, 2)drainage ditch with jaunty angled black pipe, 3) three extra gates from last year, and 4) Highland cattle penned in an arena sized pen right across the bridle path, with a weighted gate either side to let yourself in and out. We survived, just. I go down it a couple of times a year on principle, though usually on Dabs, but Arty was very good and grown up about it, so that was good.

I had a surprise jumping lesson this morning. Someone had left jumps out yesterday and my instructor said let's have a jump! So on my little one-eyed boy who hasn't jumped in I don't know how long, at least 18 months, I'd say, we started with trot poles and then placing pole to cross pole. It wasn't as small as I had wanted it ? But the little cob launched over it giving it plenty of air (just in case - his height perception isn't brilliant post-eyegate) and I stood up bolt upright ?

In the end we had a jump at E, one at B and one on the diagonal, two of which were little uprights. They were no more than about 60cm but I was chuffed to bits. He used to stop sometimes, or otherwise chip in a mini stride but today he was flying. He even went off a long one when I let him get a bit quick into one fence. It was such a good lesson.

Big cob had a dressage lesson where we did leg yield from K to X, 10m circle right then half pass X to M. Then the same the other way. That was fun and he felt lovely and flexible.

I've seen some of the winter PetPlans have new dates so have my eye on one at the end of May. Fingers crossed
 
DIY water treadmill worked incredibly well as long as I concentrated on keeping M straight, and we had a sneaky canter back up the beach when we were done. Turns out it takes exactly 12 minutes to walk from one end of the beach to the other in the water, so when she’s up to full fitness it won’t be difficult to time some 25 minute sessions! I’m so so lucky to have this pretty much on the doorstep of the yard, and to have found a yard where the YO is wonderful and probably takes better care of the horse than I did on DIY ?.

Super-Instructors lesson was ace, got some really good work today. I’ve been firmly told that the frame is a-ok for the ele work. Worked on the laterals and some collection in the canter. I usually find it very tricky, but I need to be riding more back to front than front to back. No vids of the canter work but a cute little clip and nice photo I think.

The boys have both been good this week. Fig feels very happy with life, Rooni working well in the double bridle now.

I made a slight cock up with their jabs so had to last minute dot com rush them to the practice on Friday to make sure they remained up to date! Which meant no riding Saturday :( Both been so good during the week it probably was a good time for an extra day off though.

Then today, hack with one of my besties. Fig was a super duper traffic buffer and Rooni was just mega grown up.

We had a slight change of plan today and ended up in the school for only the third time in nearly 5 years! She was much better this time, all the buttons are where I left them and she enjoyed being told how clever she was. We only did 25 minutes in total as there’s always the temptation to ask for more and then it ends in a battle so I thought I’d quit while ahead. She’s a good egg ?. No riding for me this weekend. RS lessons are booked for end of this month/early next month so counting down to those!

Today I learned the joy of setting up electric fencing (it did not go well) - I was naive but now I know more I've said next time I will need bribing! ? It's still nice to be able to go and lend a hand though and have a bit of horsey time.
