ITV to broadcast 6 part prime time series next summer based around NH racing

Hopefully should be good. Enjoyed Drive to Survive and really liked the Netflix one on the Tour de France. Lets hope they include the horses enough.

Hmm wonder if it will show the dark side of horse racing and the racehorses that nobody wants and all the deaths. It will be interesting to see but I can't help think it will be biased as well to more positive viewing.
I, for one hope it does focus on the positive

I hope it shows reality. Of course in these things people are made for the audience to like or dislike to an extent as that is good viewing but unlike the Tour de France one or Drive to Survive this one had horses. Looking forward to it. Horses on prime time 🐎

That would depend on whose reality though, almost any subject can be slanted to say whatever it is you believe.

Yes and any subject can be evaded for easy viewing.

It would be nice to show the reality of horse racing, its not all about fancy hats on ladies day and winning a fortune on the tote though is it?
Its a bit more real than that and a documentary or docuseries is a bit pointless without showing both sides of the argument.

Racegoers are very ignorant when it comes to the facts (not calling them ignorant to be rude, I mean ignorant of the facts).

I have no idea what racegoers know and I suspect you don’t either.

They did a lot of filming for this in racecourse stables over the course of last season - there were cameras behind the scenes at pretty much every fixture I worked at. There were signs up everywhere saying that if we didn't consent to being filmed we had to go and see someone about it. I did a lot of ducking and diving and have hopefully avoided the final cut!!

I caught a programme on BBC4 last night Horsepower, it was following Andrew Baldings Kingsclere yard, looks like there are several episodes . I may be late to the party and people have already seen it as looks to have been filmed around covid times .
I haven’t seen it, I’m watching it tonight. Very much looking forward to it.

Yes, recorded that program from BBC4 last night and will watch this afternoon.

2 parts last night and 2 to come (not sure when, maybe next week). All of it supposedly available on iPlayer.

You are right it was filmed in 2020/21 and has not previously been shown according to RTimes. Wonder why they bothered making it when it's taken 4 years to reach broadcast and has been buried late night on BBC4.

I’m sure it was shown on Amazon Prime or Netflix first. I definitely watched it a few months ago.

It was on Amazon prime

I've just finished watching Horsepower. It was an excellent well made documentary. Hope the new ITV one is as good.
I know that they probably didn't show the whole truth about what goes on but I still found the insight into the lives of the stable workers and jockeys very interesting and moving.

Be really interesting to know what non racing or non horse people thought. I felt there were areas they could have made more of or explained more. The jockey winnings annoys me. The winning prize money was for example £1.5 million. I can’t remember the jockey percentage off hand but that money is split quite a few ways.

The jockey gets his set riding fee and 10% of the winnings.
