I've just found my tb's bloodlines!

I love having a TB and the fact you can trace everything back hundreds of years. :D

Anything that has tb in it can be traced back to the arabians they originally started from ;)

I just love the names some of those horses had :)

Like Sea Sick (1638) :)

Yes EKW i sold him for a lot less than he was a racehorse but a lot more than i got him for.
Lovely chap, fantastic temperament and only 7. Got a fab home now and spoilt rotten, to a girl just down the lane from us.

My Boy (Sentinelese) is by Cape Cross. Who was a group 1 winner and has Danzig, Northern Dancer bloodlines. That makes him a 1/2 brother to recent greats such as Sea the Stars and Ouija Board.
On his dam's side he also has Danzig, Northern Dancer bloodlines and Bold Ruler the sire of triple crown winner Secretariat.

I've just looked up your lad. I am guessing he was injured in his last run and thus retired from racing.

Surprisingly enough it was Godolphin that bought him just before his last run.

Once upon a time Godolphin bred and raced some truly fantastic horses. These days they just breed them, race them and break them or they buy in that years super stars, race them and break them. Of the Darley bred horses that I have worked with, most of them haven't had the best conformation.

The 3 major European breeders horses can be spotted a mile off - they are distinctive to their lines.

Godolphins - upright, narrow and dainty with small boxy feet.

Juddmont - sorry! They tend to have big ugly heads! They are cross between heavier stock and lighter stock and the end result doesn't tend to end up on the pretty side. But if they do the job then looks don't matter.

Coolmore horses have the looks, the build, the engines and generally good outlooks to their jobs. Though I have found that a fair few from those lines are back at the knee.

I'm not saying that all horses from those studs are all like that, it's just an observation I have made from years of working with different bloodlines.

I'm a Coolmore girl through and through though :D

And Sir Gaylord was a half brother, same mother, to Secretariat! So there you go! Not only does he have a dodgy name he has a famour family too!

Ooooh EKW i had just noticed this - I knew Something Royal rang a bell. Wait till i tell the Big Man he has famous relatives! (maybe i won't mention Great grandaddy Gaylord...)

Iv also got a mare with nureyev being her grandsire and northern dancer her great grand sire on both sides. Sir gaylord is my gelding's great grand sire.

My boy has Northern dancer, Saddlers Wells and barrathea (who i believe won the kentucky derby and then broke down sadly.

Dam was Barbera and sire was Dr fong

Barathea didn't win the Kentucky Derby. In his career he was 2nd in the 2000gns at Newmarket, he then won the Irish 2000gns at the Curragh, was 5th in the Epsom Derby, Won the Queen Anne Stakes and Won the Breeders Cup Mile on his final start at Churchill Downs in America.

I saw him in the Guineas – got a photo of him (and Zafonic) somewhere buried in a cupboard at my parents' house. Lovely horse.

I came to own George through the Darley rehoming scheme. It's quite telling like you say that after a fairly successful start and a win in a listed race that Godolphin bought him. He blew a tendon in his race with them and hence was retired.
That said your description of Godolphin bred horses couldn't actually be applied to George! He's very much a large Irish type tb, 16.3, croup high with huge great feet :-)

You think some of the old TBs have weird names.....

The saddlebredy ancestors in Wolf's pedigree include 'Xerox' and 'Photocopi' amongst others. American naming conventions leave a lot to be desired sometimes. Three generations named after photocopiers?!?

Generous was a Dual Derby winner - Epsom and Irish, he also won the Diamond Stakes at Ascot amongst mant good wins and performances. Generous' sister, Imagine won the Oaks and is also the Dam of the wonderfully talented yet ill fated Horatio Nelson, also of Red Rock Canyon and Viscount Nelson who are 2 very good horses in their own right.

Highbrow was bred and owned by the Queen who goes through Shirley Heights who won the Epsom Derby and thus Mill Reef.

The Dam's side didn't race but it does go back to Hyperion, Deep Run, Habitat and thus Sir Gaylord.

My boy, Robbie's Adventure, is a very rare thing amongst thoroughbreds indeed.:D
He doesn't have any of the Northern Dancer lines anywhere in his pedigree. :)
Northern Dancer sired so many colts who became very prolific stallions in their own right that it's actually quite hard to find a TB without Northern Dancer somewhere in their pedigree.:p

That's because 4 generations back on the Sires side is a Welsh Pony! Lol!

 Is there? Which one? :D

TBH, I don't care what he's got in his pedigree, he wasn't a world beater when he was racing, but he wasn't a disgrace either, he looked after a lot of novice riders during his career, as well as being ridden by one or two top jockeys, and he did the job I bought him for well.:)

My old lad that I lost recently (still miss you, Bob) was a grandson of Nijinsky on his sire's side, making his great-grandad Northern Dancer, and goes back to Hyperion on both his sire and dam's side. Looking back at his blood-lines there's many good horses on both sides. I find the breeding so fascinating.

Le Coq D'or - out of High Flow who was out of Donna Helia who was out of Helia - the Welsh Pony :D

He carries some of the VERY best Welsh lines! Coed Coch, Criban, Twyford and Revel lines! I'm really loving your horse!

Hmm, I'm not sure I believe you...:p

On here, Helia is by Hyperion(definitely a racehorse) out of Deanery (unraced).

Also, the Helia you found was born in 1985, a whole 17 years AFTER her supposed great grandson Le Coq D'Or.:p

Darn it! I was hoping you would have forgotton about the TB site! Some one has mucked up on All Breed and clicked on the wrong Helia but you gotta admit - it would be pretty cool to have the best of TB and Welsh lines mixed lol!
