Talking to a friend, I was sitting on the sofa, legs crossed (as you do). Stood up, and my foot was totally dead, when I stood on it it collapsed like a fish, and I landed in friend's lap. Within seconds it was swollen like a tennis ball. I can move it, and can weight bare on it, so it's not broken "phew". This morning, above and below the swelling it's kind of "tugging" and hard to lift up and down (torn ligaments I guess).

The upshot is, it's agony, and that hubs will have to take me to and from the boy. And hubs really does not like "hanging around" at the yard. So that means quick visits until this damned thing heals. Out goes his magnet therapy - gonna use them myself anyway. Long grooming sessions, walks out in the country, all the stuff I adore.

Any experiences of sprained ankles, and I know it's how longs a piece of string, but how long did it take to go down/be able to drive, etc.

Chocolate cupcakes and frothy cappacinos all round :D sm x

As someone who walked around on a broken leg thinking I too had only sprained it I'd get yourself to A & E to be checked out "just in case". Ligaments are more painful and take longer to mend than breaks so you have my sympathy either way.

Hiya - thanks for the reply ! Were you able to move your foot around in a circle and up and down ? I'm just doing this now, very painful, but i can do it. I think I may go to A and E tomorrow, see how it goes today. Off to boots to get an ankle support and Solpadeine - all i've found in the house is my flight socks..

:(

Or like me and think you've sprained it and turned out it was actually cellulitis and deeply infected. LOL.

But I'm sure it's not that XD

Healing vibes xx

For now I'd get icing and elevating-just think RICE-Rest, ice, compression and elevation.
I've treated many ankle sprains, with therapeutic ultrasound it can work wonders (so you could see if local physio/chiro/osteo uses this) what you want to do much later when swelling is down and no longer in as much pain is to do balance exercises too, as once you have 1 ankle sprain your more prone to respraining. Good luck chicky sending healing vibes too! xx

Yes I could. Makes me cringe now just thinking about it as could have done more damage but luckily didn't!

Hope all is okay with you, take care and get well soon.

Me too. The cast came off on Monday (after 6 weeks) so I am now hobbling around trying to walk again. Get yourself checked out just in case. Also keep it up as much as possible to help reduce the swelling. Hope you're ok soon.

I can't recommend strongly enough that you see a doc and then if not broken a good physio! I was given the wrong advice and spent 18 months trying to recover from a sprained ankle. If it's not broken the physio will give you an exercise regime so that you can recover full function as quickly as possible. For the first 48 hours I think everyone recomends RICE, but do go to your GP.

will go tomorrow. Just hobbled round the yard, been to boots, and now sitting here wearing Shy's magnetic wrap. Thanks so much for the advice . sm x

I was once woken from a very deep sleep by my brother having a nightmare and shouting 'FIRE!!' My reaction was to leap out of bed, with the same sort of numb foot which collapsed in the same way and sprained my ankle. I also blacked my eye on the bedside table on the way down.

You have my sympathy.

Ooh dont wear a magnetic wrap! especially just after doing the injury -will just make swelling worse!

But please go to A&E and get checked, as could be a chip or a crack as well as a fracture - I broke my foot and could still weight bear!

it's healing up really well - I think i've been very lucky tbh. I can walk almost normally, and can drive too - but I am seeing the doc on monday anyway, so will ask about this.

The swelling has gone right down now, and I feel much better. My biggest problem now is - I've got a wedding on thursday, and have got lovely black strappy sandals to wear.... methinks a pair of flatties are needed now, *hot damn !!!*. not had an excuse to wear heels for AGES, I'm more a muck boot sort of girl :D sm x
