The difference between a showing website and a "normal" one......specsavers anyone???? read the comments on the post, and let's prepare to be lynched!!!
sorry, but this is laminitis waiting to happen. I have decided against going further in showing with mine, apart from local stuff the fat message is NOT getting through, and I care very much for my horses - all are on diets now as they have actually put on alot of weight being given extra hay this winter - due to grass being covered - I though my cob was fat, but she's nowt compared to this....http://horsegossip.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=picpost&action=display&thread=42027:eek:

I was interested to see what people on this forum thought. I have posted this thread on another forum and have been told how hideously obese she is!

I think she is fat, but definitely not as obese as a number of people on the other forum have said :)
I saw your thread on the other forum and unfortunately that particular forum thinks all horses are under £1k should all be racehorse lean, whereas on here tends to be showing people who have in general horses that are probably too well looked after and fed to give them condition. An example on my boy the first pic was november immature 3yr old 2nd picture 3months later fed more mature and better condition. Im sure hes not fat
She's definately not what I'd call obese! she is gorgeous!
I think she looks spot on in weight for showing :) Very beautiful horse.
 
Good grief, that animal is obese, a mare having a crest like that is vile. I cannot imagine how anyone can say that that animal is in good condition. I would be mortified if mine looked like that.
 
But you posted a picture of someone's horse with out there permission and only told half the story of there post,
I know i wouldn't be happy if I was the owner being portrayed in the light that I think my horse looks great as it is like this.
And if you look at the first two pics sad as it is a lot of show cobs on the circuit look like that not all but alot of them......
And yes i do show and no my horse isn't obese.
I agree some of the comments underneath aren't right but i don't think you went about this post in the right way :(

The ILPH are STRUGGLING to get people to see that fat isn't healthy - for god's sake this pony/cob whatever it is will go down hard and fast with what is a PREVENTABLE disease just because of some stupid judge somewhere wanting show condition.....HMMMMMM overweight is worse than underweight yet people cannot see this. You have your opinion, I shall have mine, the weight issue still needs bringing to the forefront. If people put photos on a PUBLIC forum (without copyright) then they must accept the fact that they may be copied, used or criticised - how many people put links to adverts and critique them???? get over it.

Just to add my 2 pennys worth in though. I cant stand fat horses, its killing with kindness IMO. I know horses sooooo fat it would make your hair stand on end if you saw them.
Their owners are oblivious to it though!! They feed them ad lib rich haylage. One small 12hh pony gets baileys outshine, alfa oil, sugar beet, haylage, is unclipped but rugged and living in and gets an extra bowl of alfa plus haylage in the field too.. and hes not even ridden, hes a pet. He's suffered from laminitis in the past as well.
One cob I know has a back end like the hugest apple you've ever seen, think thellwell x 10. The owner complains it has COPD so will only exercise the horse lightly as it gets out of breath... she doesnt realise that its breathing is laboured because its so fat and unfit.

Its really really awful. You cant say anything though, its their horses and they love them. They think they are looking after them well :(

I was looking at my naked TB this morn and feeling a little worried as I could see the point of his hip bone. I was wondering if to change him from Alfa a to alfa oil. I gave myself a stern talking to on the way home, hes a Tb, hes fit and hes coming out of one of the harshest winters we've had. He looks muscled up, fit and well, not fat. Even I feel that im so conditioned to seeing overweight horses that when a horse is the size it should be I still want to feed it up.

But My opinion on fat horses is much the same as yours, in no part of my post did i say the horse looked good!so I shall not get over it thank you!
My issue is the way you went about highlighting this fact but we shall just agree to disagree over that as everyone has different opinions and I really dont want to get in a mud slinging match :)

IT NEEDS highlighting!!!!! It's the only way people will learn....One owner near me is about to lose yet ANOTHER pony to laminitis, they are natives, grossly overweight, fed 4 times a day on conditioning feeds - all for the fecking showring......
 
Actually i do think some of the native owners are the worst,
A lady on the yard i used to be on over fed her darty fr pony to the point she is now a complete write off! ruined all due to perfectly preventable laminitus! and it really does drive me mad my lil one is restricted heavily yet they are pumping them full off conditioning feeds it really is madness!
I really do hope the trend shifts weight wise the sooner the better!:(
