Tonight I went for a jog with my 1 year old jrtx. I am hoping to do this to tire him out in winter when there isnt so much light for fun walks. How far can I reasonably expect him to run, he is a very fit little dog but I dont want to over do it. Also I am not very fit yet so we can start off slowly together. is it ok to do a short run most week days?

Thanks!

With small dogs over 1 i think it is fine to run as often as you like. Just look out for signs that your dog is tiring.

I run about 5 miles 3 or 4 times a week with mine.

Just build it up slowly.

Agree, I wouldn't jog a large breed under 12-18 months and think you should be a bit more careful with weight-bearing breeds and high-impact exercise but that sounds fine for your lad - plus JRTs run everywhere most of the time anyway :p
I wouldn't run with him every single day, give him a bit of a breather some days - we all need one sometimes :p

I think you're more likely to tire before your JRT :D

I run with my Boston terrier, though not as much since I got the pug. My Boston does three miles at 8-minute miles, though I suspect she can do more, seeing as her record for non-stop fetch is 1 hr 45 minutes.

My friend suggested I joined her for a jog with Betsy. I told her that we couldnt because B is still a baby and I dont want to push her too hard to young...

The real reason??

I genuinly think I would drop down dead after about 5 mins!! Friend said that once B is a year we have to go with her and her dog.... erghhhh!

This! My spangle is over 2 years and I only run him every other day - he's now passed out on the sofa next to me!

Agree that a terrier will probably outrun you every time though.
