Undecided. I'm always wary of stuff bramnded by famous people as it often only sells cos of the name, when the quality isnt that good. But the John whitaker stuff seems good quality, but pricey.

Im not saying that the stuffs not quality, but whats wrong with quality non branded gear costing about 1/2 the price?????

i found the most beautiful saddle. well cut , excellent quality EVERY thing i ever wanted in a jumping saddle. it was suberbly comfortable on my mare moved lovely in it, she liked it too!
guess what..... £500 !!!!!!!!!!! brand new jumping saddle, suitable for grand prix fences.

brought on the spot. seen and tried pessoa although lovely saddles wasnt worht £500 more than mine.
mine is a henri de ... event/ambassador
 
I've got a JW Stud Guard, becuase when I bought it it was the best quality available in the local tack shops. I wouldn't buy a JW saddle as they are too close contact for me. I've got a saddle cloth as it was a present, but its lasted really well.

Non branded stuff isn't half the price if you go for the same quality, and the quality non branded stuff (round here anyway) doesn't end up in tack shops and you will only see them at the big shows.
 
I dont care what people think, I have a smug jacket and a JW Bridle because they are good quality and they do what they are supposed to do. I wouldnt buy anything putley on brand

Have you seen the Milton Range??? JW for kiddies?? They even have a Milton Shell suit/tracksuit things, ideal for drinking cider in the haybarn!!

(both girls have JW jackets :O and Hattie has a sparkly JW browband but she's a chav anyway!! LOL)
 
Never thought about it being Chavvie! I got the stud girth as it seemed good quality, padded and matched the colour of my Stubben Havanna saddle. And I got a bridle too............................with the diamante brownband (runs and hides)
 
I'm going to immediately duck after saying this.....

Being more eventing/dressage person, have never really been in to SJ, but went to affil. show with very SJ friend and was suprised at the large proportion of chav teenagers.

Mind you...I do live in Essex!

Their showjumping CV?... one clear round rosette to their name and a pony that refuses to enter the ring, never mind refuse anything in it!

They can easily be identified at shows - they will have a fly veil, the entire range of leg boots for the horse (and possibly all on at the same time), pink accessories and the failsafe clue - the dutch gag. All of the above will be attatched in some way, shape or form, to a shetland!!!

LOL!!! I am just about to start sj (Sunday - oh my God! Help!) and am determined not to get any extra gear. I would hate to look chavvy and more importantly, I would hate to look like I know what I am doing as I will almost certainly go in and demolish all the fences/fall off/run out/burst into tears! Having said that I am wondering whether I need boots for the boy but certainly not getting anything diamante or embroidered!!

I don't have to have branded gear. Infact most of my stuff isn't top of the range and Henri de Rivel saddles (which you have) are made by Shires. As I look at my tack now my bridle, plain numnah (so nothing fancy like JW) and stirrups are all from Shires. My riding hat is Harry Hall, my boots are Toggi but only cost £35 and are the best boots I've ever had, and my good show gaiters are Saddlecraft and cost me £35!
Then I ride in my JW jacket

Why did I buy them? Because I liked them. They are all good quality and well priced, and they are what I wanted. I think it's lovely you want a foal but don't ask me to finance it just because you don't agree with branded stuff. I think if you are going to condemn people for buying what they want then find an equichav - someone who is a walking talking JW advert, and not just someone who has a few things because they like them.
 
I really like the JW range but i dont like it when people go OTT with it.

My friend has the bridle, show jacket, numnah, fly veil, stud girth and tendon boots!! I think that is a bit much personally but i'm ont gonna tell her LOL!!
 
OKay people, define branded gear....Most things are branded weather it's a stubben bridle with the little thing on the browband or a cheap requisite bridle but theres a massive difference in the two regarding price, so when people say "why do people need to have branded gear", it's all branded!
 
Well if people are saying its overpriced and you can buy just as good unbranded for a lot less,

am I OK with a saddlecloth and plain blouson jacket as they were half price in a sale? And a fly veil as it was a pressie?

I just have a dark grey blouson jacket from when they first came out - not the bright red and white one that looks like a motorsport jacket!

I think its OK in small doses but the local SJ yars has the ones with the latest jackets and the ponies are top to toe in JW bling and yes thats a bit much and chavvy - and don't forget the burberry shirts!
 
Nah you're fine with a few bits and pieces... its when you have everything from the whole range in exactly the same colours and put it all on at the same time so you can't actually see your horses colour underneath cos your blinded by 'your' colours that you have to start to worry!
 
My BSJA with my 9 year old warmblood, and he has all JW stuff, i think i buy mainly on the brand and quialty, the same in real life really if you went shopping for yourself. But I am spoilt teenager really so i guess im very lucky to have this!! I know some people who spend 1/2 the price and are of still the same quailty, i do think it can be quie chavy because it is like the nike or adidas name in clothing for teenagers. Its also your own prefernce.
 
Ok...perhaps is not the JW brand that neccesarily produces the tres chav look, but is how it is all put together.

My unhorsey OH was amazed by the jackets with names on back. He insists that our children will have them.....when they qualify for the Olympics!

My most lasting image of local SJ is a 14 year old girl riding a 13hh pony over 4ft jumps with GPA hat (too big), dutch gag (bottom ring), pink everything and HUGE gold earings.

vivhewe - you described Trailblazers Champs perfectly! We popped in for a looky and Im sorry, but it was full of chavs!!!!!!!!!!! It had all the little girls dressed as you described but with masses of make up on, and in the evenings they could be seen wearing porn star heels and tiny weeny skirts n tops! He he. No offence to anyone though! (uh oh, Im gonna get yelled at).
 
A dutch gag is not 'chavvy'. Its an option some poeple use as a bit that works for them.

My 14.2 SJ pony was strong in a snaffle, and objected to other bits such as pelhams that we tried by backing off.
She was most comfortable and a nicer ride (less hauling on her mouth etc) in her flexi mouth dutch gag on the small ring between the bottom ring and the snaffle ring when jumping.
