Hi All

My 6 year old connie has a click in one of his hind legs. It started about a year ago, he might grow out of it as hes only this year really properly filling out. It doesnt cause him any problems lamesness or stiffness, (I'd just rather he didnt do it) im working on building his hind end up to see if it will go away. I got a the Equine America glucosamine supplement yesterday to try to see if it will also help but now im wondering about the MSM in it (to be honest it was an impulse buy).

Once a horse goes on this when they dont have any problem such as arhritis do they tend to become dependant on it or any supplement for that matter? The MSM would be the most concerning to me as its anti-inflammatoy I dont want him to get a flare up if he were to come off it. I see that cortaflex is ment to be good and it doent have MSM though its twice the price. My plan was to put him on the glucosomine for the two months the tubs lasts for to see if the click goes and them hopefully take him off it, when hes built up. I just dont want to get into a situation where he becomes dependant on it when he doesnt really need it.

Im getting the chiropractor out as soon as i can get an appointment for his annual MOT so maybe I should hold off on the supplement till I can talk to him about it?

This is what clicking means in people (same in horses).

Joint clicking: A clicking sound that occurs during movement of a joint. Virtually any joint in the body may be affected. It is quite common and in most cases it is normal and poses no problems and in fact most people can deliberately produce a clicking sound in various joints such as the neck, hips, fingers and toes. People with loose joints tend to have a higher incidence of clicking joints. Injury to the joint and old age may also increase the likelihood of clicking joints. If pain and inflammation are associated with the clicking joint then it is a good idea to seek medical advice as it could be a result of such things as damage to the the joint cartilage or ligaments.

My horse is on the Equine America gloucosamine and chrondroitin and it also contains MSM. Its very reasonably priced and last a good while.

As it doesnt bother him at all im pretty sure its just the regular air click as it goes away with exersise. I'll hold off and speak to the ostep see if it can be sorteed with exersise first.
