Is it beneficial for horses to jump from a nice forward trot when they are an established jumper jumping 90-1m at shows? My paddock is too small, boggy and stony to do much so I keep the jumps low - 50 -60 cm but I vary the schooling by doing them from trot sometimes. Its a lot harder than canter where you have more momentum.
But I dont know if its good for them or not....

I don't think it's beneficial but probably won't harm him. It will be harder for him as he won't have the pingy impulsion from an active and bouncy canter

i used to get made to jump from trot in lessons occasionally, it's a horrible horrible thing to trot down to a big fence but it does have a few benefits - for me,
you can't miss
the horse can't just use the spring from the canter to lollop over the fence, it has to push off both hindlegs
you can build a lot of rider confidence knowing you can jump a fence from what feels like not enough pace, so you distinguish power from speed ;)
riders are less inclined to get in front of the horse
horse less inclined to rush

Yep it is good for building up muscle and also makes them snap up their knees quicker as to clear the fence they can't just do a big canter stride over it if that makes sense. So it's good for horses that aren't particularly careful in front.

Also teaches the rider to wait and go with the horse (as you are unlikely to know exactly when your horse is going to take off)

Im a big fan of jumping from trot, especially on an unconfident or new horse, it gives us both more time to a. hold on and b. let them see the jump. I was amazed how high i was asked to jump from trot in lessons a couple of years ago so now im a big fan

We jump from trot all the time, I’m not really confident enough yet to canter between jumps. But we canter after the jump, then back to trot for the next one.
