Just because I know that some people enjoy them....

I never like to feel as though I'm clogging up the forum with useless posts, but I think I've done a monthly update ever since Flower was born, and I know that lots of people enjoy seeing pictures, so here goes! We're now at nine months old and seem to have got to grips with living without mummy, who does occasionally sunbathe near the fence line but still appears to be enjoying her break from baby horse.

Although one might imagine that the emotional trauma (May spent three days trying to convince everyone that being separated by a few bits of wood was truly terrible) would temporarily stunt her growth, the slight bit of levelling up that made me rejoice that she was finally slowing down has been superseded by a bottom that's more disproportionately high now than ever before!

Said baby does, at least, maintain a pretty face underneath all of that hair, as you can almost tell looking at this picture. Unfortunately, it's complemented by a personality that has an arguable excess of 'Welsh fire', but you win some, you lose some :D (I do love her really!)

Uncle Six and their sheep friend are still being the world's best babysitters, and without her mum constantly hovering over May and letting her precious princess become well and truly spoilt, he even occasionally finds enough backbone to discipline her. It's about time somebody did! Here they are looking like they're about to drop their latest album :D

Mary and Tudor are too busy wallowing in the mud to share any pictures of them, so please just imagine them looking immaculate in a beautiful, mud-free field somewhere!

Aww they're so cute. I love the sheep.

It's interesting about the mum enjoying the break from her baby.
I remember reading an article that described how stallions play with the youngsters in feral herds, whereas the mares do the grooming and feeding.

The suggestion was that the lack of a paternal role in the lives of domesticated foals may contribute to mares' getting a bit tired of the attention the foals want.

That is interesting! I actually think the three of them very much mimicked that set-up. May was around six weeks old when I re-introduced Six, and him and Mary did a pretty equal split between who was in charge of her at any one time from then on. Now poor little Six has sole charge!

Six does look so adorable doing a grand job, and of course flower the chunk who knows it anyway...Oh and the sheep looks cute too..Love to see the updates

Love the photos! Hasn't she grown :) She's going to be a good one I'm sure!

The photo of Six and sheep is brilliant!

May is still beautiful :) sounds like she's going to be a big one!

Just love this picture of Six and the sheep! Does sheep have a name?!

Of course May is still very cute... But I do feel that Six and Sheep are out-limelighting her at the moment. They're just too fabulous - I feel like there should be a series of children's books about them :D

Yes she is mega cute especially with her mud conditioning beauty treatment, but I agree Six and Sheep deserve a series of books (for children AND grown ups), their expressions are priceless. Love these pics!

I love your photos.

Love the captions and your description. The photos will make my nephew happy, who still is a huge fan of May. ;)

great update, keep them coming :)

Glad you all enjoy them! It gives me the perfect excuse to keep posting, and means I can show them off without worrying that I'm clogging up the forum and just being a bit annoying :D

Love the babysitters! How big is Flower now?

Love pics of my birthday buddy! Have we dared measure her yet?

She is big! Poor Mary carrying her around in secret.

It's hard to believe she was ever this small, isn't it?!

We have indeed dared to measure her properly. She's dead on 14hh at the wither, and 14.2hh behind. I reckon we're on track for 16-16.2hh, which is bigger than expected but less monstrously oversized than she could have been! :D

Thank you! Sheep is tentatively named Dandy, but tends to be referred to by the very original 'Sheepie' most of the time!

I love the sheep and pony pic :D

I too like the sheep!

May is fab but the sheep and Six steal the thread!!! :D

I am a writer, so maybe one day I'll immortalise them all in a book about their exploits! :D Six and Sheepie would certainly give me a lovely story of cross-species friendship to get me started!

And because I now know how popular they are, I thought you might all like to see Sheepie's new role as hay bearer. As you can tell from the pictures, Flower felt it was a bit silly and wasn't sure she liked having her food move around of its own accord. Six, on the other hand, thought Sheepie had had an ingenious idea, one that was far preferable to eating from the floor! :D

I promise that they do have drier bits of field to stand in, but they still insist on waiting by the gate when they know haying time is approaching - that's horses for you!
