so after toying with the idea for well... years... I have bought a treeless saddle today. Only a cheapish used one to see how I get on.

From the people who I have known who have ridden in them, most haven't liked them :/

my principle reason for buying it is that I have a pony who I struggled to get a saddle for last year, the only one I could find to fit her was a gallop one... I bought it and TBH, I wont ride with it as I just cringe at what the tree will be made of, so here I am - buying another for her.

I would ideally like to get a Heather Moffatt but for now we will see how we get on with this one.

But, is there anything I should be aware of before using a treeless saddle??

It came with the correct treeless saddle style of numnah so I have that. but is there anything else I should know?

Thanks for reading

Wouldn't touch a cheap one with a barge pole....I ride treeless but the crappy Indian imports wouldn't get anywhere near my horses back.

What sort of treeless is it? Make/Style/roughly what does it look like, does it have a gullet? Some Treeless are brilliant others worse than useless, hope you've got a goodun

What brand of saddle have you bought, and what pad came with it? What size/shape is your horse and what type of riding do you do?

I love treeless but there are so many awful ones out there that you really need to carefully think about what you want from the saddle before you buy otherwise you may as well just burn your money.

As others have said - what make is it? If it is a genuine torsion, fit form free form, barefoot, etc. then it's fine. If it is cheap knock off, then don't use it. It s very, very important that you use a proper pad (these can cost £100 plus). If it doesn't have quick release stirrup bars, but a closed ring instead, then you need caged stirrups. Treeless saddles are no recommended for heavier riders.

Agree with all this. Re the weight limit I think it will vary from make to make but I know the HM ones are around 12-13 stone
