Had a very close call today....Me and my two friends (S and C) went out for a little hack this evening just round a few fields. Everything was going so well!! did some trotting, then came to a stretch of 3 fields which i usually like to canter/gallop across. We trotted the first field, started cantering on the second field and sped up into a gallop. By the end of the 3rd field theres another field but we usually turn right round a corner. I Kept checking behind to make sure the other two were ok, then i noticed infront of me there was a small muddy patch right on the corner, So i tried to slow lady down as much as i could before i got to it. My plan was to go into the field a bit so the turn wasnt so sharp...but lady just turned anyway, VERY sharply and almost slipped...phew....that was close!!! Better slow down now!! but no....she wanted to keep going. SLOW DOWN LADY!!!! *Spook*
-Leaps sideways mid gallop- aaaaand finally slowed down...
"STOOPPPPP!!!!!!!"
huh? stop?
Behind me, C was shouting STOP!!!! I turned round to see S on the floor and her horse, Bud, cantering towards me. C jumped off her horse, Sassy, to try and catch Bud, but failed and bud cantered past me and almost knocked me off lady
(i was stopped on a little steep, narrow bridge/hill)
S was crying, Lady was panicing, i tried to make her go forwards to try and follow bud but she wouldnt budge, no matter how hard i tried
LUCKILY he stopped in the field infront of me and started eating the grass
S and C caught up to me and went and caught bud but lady was still panicing, wouldnt go forwards but was flinging her head everywhere jumping up and sideways spinning in circles then decided to bolt down the hill....how i managed to stay in the saddle i do not know... :/
"OMG What Happened?!?!"
When me and C went round that corner, bud lost sight of us, paniced, sped up, slipped, fell over and landed on S!!(just imagine a bit 17.2hh horse falling on top of you!!) her feet were still in the stirrups but luckily she unclipped it before she was dragged along.... (she was trapped under him so couldnt free her leg)
S walked bud around and he seemed absolutely fine, but S was still crying, i wanted to get off lady to give her a big hug but i knew lady would trample me and probably start rearing (shes never bucked of reared under saddle with me but she will if im holding her and shes panicing)
so i stayed on as we were only a field away from our field which i felt incredibly guilty about as we left them behind a bit
and lady was being a panicy prat so i trotted her the rest of the way (about half a field) to get to S's mum to tell her what happened
i just feel so guilty because its partly my fault, i went round that corner and bud tried to catch up. AND feel guilty about staying on lady (even though it wouldve been worse for everyone if i had got off) AND feel guilty about trotting to S's mum and leaving them behind....they werent THAT far behind maybe about 100 yards.... when we got to the field i got straight off and gave S and massive hug and almost burst into tears with her but she kept saying it wasnt my fault, just one of those things no one knew was going to happen....
well S is in A&E as im writing this still waiting to see a doctor (almost 2 hours of waiting) she is in alot of pain as bud landed straight on her, winded her so shes finding it hard to walk and breathe from pain in her back, neck and ribs....
just hope shes ok !!
