Oh wow, will be gutted if Burgie stops! I've done 1* the last 2 years and love it. Its the event I used to spectate at as a young kid, never dreaming I'd compete at it. I will always suppot it, I wish others would too, especially those south of the border 
It is well populated up here - there's a huge equestrian population (2nd to Newmarket I believe). I think the issue is simply that it is SO expensive to do BE, and up here there aren't nearly enough BE events - the very few there are are spread over a massive area (ie. whole of Scotland). This puts a lot of people off joining in the first place. I'm wondering it I can even afford to affiliate in 2011!
At the end of the day Burgie is a super event which deserves to be better supported. Hutton clashed with it this year which should never have been allowed to happen. I also believe that the showing classes often clash with other big showing events which would make class numbers dwindle there. I do think Burgie should definately consider holding BSJA classes, especially as the unaffiliated SJ ring I watched had loads of entries.
