Got double barrelled by my mare today. Totally my own fault and a stupid stupid mistake. I was feeding her and my shettie. The shetland had a scratch on her back so I put cream on it and saw a mark on my mare so thought I would check it out whilst I was there. She was eating and has her fly mask on (not sure vision really made a difference here) anyhow stupidly did not say anything to her or let her see me, went straight up and touched under her stomach (from behind where the shetland was). I can remember now that she jumped really high like I had really frightened her and I remember the last thing that went through my head was oh ****!!! Then I was on the floor. Luckily she doesn't have shoes, but she got me first in the pelvic area, then I must have bent over and she finised on my collar bone area and then under the chin. I am very sore in the pelvic area, cannot actually touch there, feel slightly sick and my neck is really hurting as it was pushed so hard backwards. Just think how stupid I was, but lucky its not worse.

Yes please go and get checked. I was kicked earlier this year and thought I was fine to begin with and I really wasn't. Fortunately I had a lucky escape in that I had no permanent damage, but I was off work for six weeks. Better safe then sorry so do get it checked. The problem with these sort of injuries is that the damage is often internal and you can't trust your memory as to what happened. I had injuries in places I genuinely didn't think had been touched

A&E NOW....yes I am shouting at you. After being told (luckily wrongly) that I had broken my pelvis two months ago I was left in NO DOUBT that pelvic injuries can be extremely dangerous and life threatening if left untreated. It is very easy for a break or chip to the bone or even a fracture to cause internal bleeding. This can be big bleeds that become obvious, or slow bleeds where by the time you know...you will be very very ill.

I am being alarmist because I want you to go and get checked out. Don't wait until tomorrow or play it by ear and see how you feel. If you can't touch it, there's a reason...get to A&E.

I almost punched the consultant in the face when he checked my pelvis and I could actually bear it being touched gently and turned out it wasn't broken, so if yours is really hurting that much, go and get x rayed.

It is possible to walk perfectly well and without major pain on a broken pelvis as well. I do know that from experience as a later MRI showed that the break in my pelvis was old...at some point I literally snapped the bone in two, it shifted and fused back together wonky...and I don't ever remember anything like that happening.

The consultant was very very clear to me.

I know I am going on....but have I made my point yet?

I would like to see an update tomorrow saying you got checked at A&E and x rayed and have the all clear.

I'd even prefer to know you got checked and there was something wrong ...than to hear you didn't get checked and end up very seriously ill.

Pelvic injuries are serious. Please get checked.

And hugs...hope you heal up quickly. It's a hell of a shock when things like this happen. Make sure you have a sugary cup of tea or something x

A&E for an xray now!

I tripped in the stable. Wasn't sure what was happening with my wrist. Was blacking out a bit.

Turned into an op the next day to plate and screw my bobbered wrist back together.

Hope you're okay lass. Deffo lesson learnt!

Please listen to _GG_. Go and get checked. I hope you're ok. We all do daft things sometimes x

Please do go and get yourself MOT'd, far far better to be safe than sorry. I sincerely hope you are just bruised and it's nothing serious. Feel better :)

Completely agree with the A&E advice. get there now! At the very least you can get some good painkillers and peace of mind you are OK. If not, thet can fix you up in no time x

Definitely get checked out. Pelvic injuries are often hidden until you are very ill- best be safe than sorry.
Feeling sick and light headed is classic fracture feeling.
Hope its just bruising and that your lack of response so far means your currently on a bed awaiting x ray!

No sorry lack of response means my in laws have just arrived and am having to behave like I am fine. Feeling a bit worse for wear now and will keep you updated, either a&e later or docs tomorrow I think.

Please go to a&e asap. This sort of injury is very dangerous. You can go from feeling relatively ok to gravely ill extremely quickly. Plus it gets you out of entertaining the in laws ;)

Sorry but speaking as a nurse, you are a fool if you leave this until morning, at best youll have a really uncomfortable night and at worst you might have internal injuries and bleeding and be dead by morning, i dont think i can be any more blunt in my assessment as it appears youre not listening to the advice given, which is entirely up to you, but be aware of the possibilities

I don't think this person's thinking straight :S Hope someone who knows them in RL will take things in hand!! OP, for the love of god, get yourself to A&E!!!??

I agree with everyone saying get thee to a&e. However if you really don't want to/don't feel you can right now, may I suggest calling NHS direct? They can then give you more advice than the H&H board can... well... given the multitude of horse related a&e trips we've all made, possibly not! But please, seek some medical advice ASAP.

Right...I'm going to put this another way and be blunt which is something I don't normally do...

Don't think about yourself if you don't want to, that's up to you, that's fine...but think about everyone else. What will happen to your horses or your husband or your children if they have to give you long term care or bury you because you thought you would just wait until the morning.

I'm sorry...but what you describe and the pain you describe, exacerbated by it being your pelvis, means you need to get yourself to A&E. If you haven't done anything great...if you have, you are making the work of the healthcare professionals harder by leaving it longer. You are putting your life at risk and no I am not being alarmist. I really had it drummed into me how serious pelvic injuries can be. The Consultant was far more concerned with my pelvic pain than my back pain. He said worst that could happen if I broke my back was that I would be paralysed. Worst that would happen if I broke my pelvis was that I would bleed to death.

Id it really worth the risk? What advice would you be giving if it was a family member in your position?

Please please...if you think you're ok, fine....but get to A&E so you can prove us all wrong and we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Really thinking of you and hoping you get yourself seen too. FWIW, NHS direct will say the exact same thing...they may even just send an ambulance out, so if you don't want drama...just get OH to take you in.

All said purely out of desire to make sure you're ok. xx
