just saw this filly on fb, is it just me or..

Well I know plenty of people who sell poor quality horses and 'thieve' and pay no taxes ect ect who are not from the travelling community!

Ditto. I also know Roma who work, pay tax and dont steal. Its a community whos traditional way of life has been eroded by modernity. We could try and understand why the Roma have problems, we could try and judge people as individuals.

Personally I'd rather breed freak horses than be a racist.

To gently steer this thread back to the horse (I don't actually care who is selling it).......I understand that it was bred in Holland and recently imported (which could partially explain the extreme tucking up). FWIW the breeding given IS actually quite good, but I don't think this is one of the finer examples of this extremely overbred/inbred and commercially ruined breed.

All the travellers I've encountered (bar one) have pretty much fit right into their stereotype.
Therefore, based on my experience, when I see 'traveller' I think 'steer clear.' Amongst other things.
This does NOT make me a racist.

If I met a traveller who was totally law abiding, paid taxes and didnt rob me, I'd be totally fine with them.
But as I never have, I'll venture to think as I did before, according to MY experience. Again, that DOES NOT make me a racist.

For example, if every say, Boxer dog I met went to bite me, id automatically be wary of Boxer dogs.
Wouldn't make me dog-ist

Oh dear poor wee mare, she is not the best put together horse I've ever seen that's for sure but she might be worth a punt for the right money, see if a lot of good feed and a bit of time in the field would do her any good

agreed.

having been robbed out of a rather good sum recently as these people decided to not pay for their goods - ive not a good word to say aboutthem

many run ins with travellers.....never good any of them - normally thieving./fights and squaring upto me. not good.

The Roma and Travelers are actually statistically underrepresented in UK prisons despite the traditional Traveller's way of life being utterly destroyed. Roma and Travellers used to work in agriculture, often seasonally, and with metal and horses. Rapid change has left Traveller culture struggling to adapt in the same way that pit closers and the death of heavy industry has left the Welsh valleys deprived. These are problems with political and economc roots. branding the community 'the thieving community,' doesn't help, any more than saying South Waleans are feckless and irresponsible helps.

Are the strange back legs part of the herring gutted thing?

I believe this particular dealer is fairly well reputed. He is a breeder of high value Gypsy cobs and imports Frisians from Holland. Don't know him or had any dealings with him but it seems a bit harsh judging him as a rascally breeder of poor quality horses when his reputation would suggest otherwise. Personally I wish people would buy British horses as we have so many good animals at such low prices, but to each his own...
RE the black mare, bad, bad shape - I hope she gets a good home.

Perhaps instead of slagging off a whole race of people time would be better spent helping the general public realise that buying these poor critters because of a fashion statement is detrimental to its breed. I have yet to see a nice fresian horse which moved in a suitable manner to be a good ridden prospect seen many a lovely one pulling a hearse but that is what they were bred for they make great carriage horses but awful ridden ones. Shame some local judges cant see that too as they often appear round here as unregistered native ponies go figure that one

Not interested in the other debate, surprised a dealer imported her unless it was on her papers alone & hadn't been viewed at all. Not a type I could take a punt on. There's underweight & just downright poor conformation. Would look a bit better if she had some sort of engine behind (the framework should be there even though I would expect the muscle to be lacking at this age). No amount of feeding up or grass belly will let that ribcage drop! Poor thing looks like she is part greyhound. I'd worry about what she would carry, as the prediction for 16.3hh would be too big for many people, yet she isn't up to carrying a taller rider (note taller, not heavy), as she wont have the power or frame to do so. Can you see anyone with any leg length on her? The riders feet would be dangling under her belly & it would be impossible to get any decent leg contact. They know she's a funny shape, that's why he's likely to be riding so short, to try & make her look like she has more depth. Poor girl.

That has got to be one of the worst put together horses I have ever seen, no wonder its ended up here Holland wont want to keep any like that, they must pay peanuts for them then sell them to people who have no idea what they are buying, very sad.

The Roma community. I'm not sure why its considered relivant, or why they're like Voldimort and its 'the community that must not be named,' but then I'm frightfully right on.

No, not Roma. They are usually pretty good and have a long and venerable heritage. Proper gypsies. I'm talking about the Irish travelling scum. Sorry if that sounds a bit strong but I have had plenty of first and second hand dealings with them and I stand by it.

Yes I saw this advert too, and thought that she had grown to quickly and body just not matching the legs, unfortunate as she does look lovely. It might be a matter of steady feed to obtain correct body weight as she is definitely lacking in that area. Really hope she finds a lovey home.

When you say you are sorry if scum 'sounds a bit strong,' in exactly what way are you sorry?

It is racist.

Have you had first and second hand dealings with a statistically significant number of Travellers? You do realise that the Roma and Traveller communities (which are collected as one group for statistical purposes) are about the same size as the British Chinese population. It's a huge number of people you are just writing off based on your totally subjective experiences. Every single nurse I've ever met has been plain mean, but I'm not going to write off an entire profession based on my experiences. Equally I've met more Travellers I respect than ones I don't.

You do understand that blatant discrimination is part of the reason the Traveller community sticks to its self and puts two fingers up at the rest of us? First the economics underpinning their life style failed, then they live with being the one minority people think it's OK to call scum. It's not surprising some of them steal scrap metal

Yeeeeah I have to say, I do wonder sometimes.

It kinda does, though. That's the definition...

Back on track, I'd be interested to see how that girl grows up. She ain't much to look at now, is she :(

The 3yo filly has probably been imported for her bloodlines, Beart is a very well liked stallion (although not personally my type) and Fietse was one of the best friesian stallions ever.

With a couple of years in a field she will look a lot different but it won't take away the fact that she is a rib too long, but by the time she is 5 or 6 and filling out she will be completely different. She isn't deep enough in the chest though and I really don't know if any amount of maturing will make a difference really.

It is such a shame that the breeders in Holland are now seeing people in the UK wanting a 'cheap' friesian as a way of dumping off all of their breeding failures - they wouldn't even present horses like that for inpsection in Holland as they know they wouldn't get anywhere. In years gone by they would have gone for meat - now they come over here to be palmed off on unsuspecting buyers who don't get beyond the fact that 'it's a friesian' such a shame.

Agreed!

Nothing to do with the fact that it is against their belief to cooperate with the police at all, or that the police are really rather reluctant to get involved with them?

Ah then it is, of course, completely acceptable for them to live without contributing to the state by way of taxes, to set up came on private land and to wage a living by stealing what is legally someone else's property.

Give your head a shake! There are just as many non-gypsy/traveller people doing the exact same.
