Just when things were going well, everything goes completely wrong. A&E visit!!!!

Ouch poor you - that sounds really unlucky.
Complan is really good - comes in different flavours and contains all the vits and minerals etc. One sachet is supposed to be like a light meal.
You can get drinking yoghurts too.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon

Ouch  Hope you're not in too much pain, and that they're giving you enough painkillers.

A friend damaged his throat a few years ago (it wasn't funny at the time, but it was afterwards - he was riding his bike to school and a postman(!) opened the van door directly into his bike, causing him to fly into the door throat first :o) and he coped for several weeks on a diet of muffins (the cheap gooey ones!) that he'd break up into pieces, pour some extra water onto so they were a bit more gooey, and then he'd have to sort suck them down. What about ready-brek?

ETA: If you're really struggling you could always try fortisip (or fortijuice or forticreme and the likes) which is a kinda calorific drink similar to complan - they come in plenty of flavours (orange, tropical (which is supposedly vile, like tropical flavoured milk?), strawberry, toffee etc) and you should be able to either get them on prescription or just buy them from a pharmacy - think they're around £2 each so it'd work out better to get lots on prescription :)

If you are worried about what to eat can I suggest finding your nearest Wiltshire Farm Foods they do a fantastic range of pureed meals and puddings- they are frozen and you just pop them in the oven or microwave and they don't look like mush they look like the food they are! I work for them and used some when I had a tooth problem they were delicous, might help rather than getting everyone to liquidise everything!

Hope you feel better soon! x

i had surgery to the inside & roof of my mouth, so couldn't eat solid food for a number of weeks, i found the following ok

Ellas Kitchen Baby food is the nicest, so you can get your 5 a day, it also comes in a handy squeeze pouch,
Milkshakes & protein shakes (chocolate is nicest)
Angel Delight, (chocolate again)
ambrosia chocolate custard (!)
Japanese udon noodles are really soft, so very very easy to eat,

Hope you're feeling better soon, the upside of my mouth surgery was fantastic weight loss... ideal as i'd just had a baby!!

Ouch :(

Food wise, ice cream should be on your list as it's high in calories (there's a reason why it's readily available on hospital wards ;)) And ditto the fortisip (& other brands) they're not actually that bad to eat and will keep you healthy :)

Sounds horrible. Hope you start to feel better soon.
How about hot chocolate - could use cream yummmm
rice pudding?
Anabe karmel style meals eg just puree whatever anyone else is eating.

Oh you poor thing, I can totally sympathise. I was found unconsious in a field with blood pouring out my ear about 7 years ago after being kicked in the face. My jawbone was broken and had perforated my eardrum. Those elastic bands are a complete pain in the neck, keep up with the painkillers although some of them I had a really strange reaction with, think uncontrollable tears for no reason whatsoever or complete sedation!

I really struggled with my weight for the 6 weeks. I think I lived off sloppy mash and gravy. I was given the high protein/calorie drinks but they were so foul I couldn't swallow them. By the end I had resorted to squeezing melted chocolate/double cream into my mouth from a bag! TBH my teeth survived for the 6 weeks without being cleaned properly but as soon as I could open my mouth I went straight to the hygienist for a proper clean! You will find out who really loves you though 'cos your breath won't be that great!!!

Just so you know I developed a really bad lisp whilst it was healing but it has completely gone now.

Keep your spirits up.

Hope your feeling better soon, sounds horrible
Ditto Ellas Kitchen baby foods, how about ready brek with lots of honey/ chocolate sauce/ any other type of sauce that might take your fancy? You can make it as runny or as thick as you need to - trust me I have done it ;-) ice cream, rice pudding, homemade custard made with lots of milk to give you some protein? Good luck on Tuesday x

Oh you poor thing!!
As someone who suffers from Jaw problems I feel your pain. My Jaw was broken as a child (falling off!) my lower jaw was displaced and it was never fixed properly. Noone can see it really unless they look carefully that my jaw is wonky :(. The right hand side of my Jaw grew normally but the broken left side didn't.
I can't fully open my mouth and it's got worse as I've got older. It's OK to eat but if I force my mouth open to wide it sears with pain and it also hurts to lie down with my face in the pillow as it pushes it down.
Unless I go for major reconstruction surgery it won't get better and could possibly get worse. I've seen so many jaw specialists and they all say that Jaw surgery is very complicated and fraught with danger as there are important facial nerves in the way. For this reason I really feel for you, make sure you have good surgeon and specialist!!!! Seriously research who's going to be looking after your jaw. I had one guy and I wasn't happy so I got another one.
I hope your Jaw heals well, it's a right pain not being able to fully open my mouth and it aches all the time.
Oh you poor thing :( :(.

Food wise I second smoothies, you can get ones with oatmeal in which are more nutritious and filling. Your going to have to be really careful not to loose too much weight, 6 weeks is a long time to go without a proper meal.

I'm sure 6 weeks will fly by in regards to the horses, you'll be riding before you know it. At least having Jaw problems wont inhibit your riding ability not in the way a leg or back would. Silver lining an all that x

Bloody hell, what a horibble accident! Bless you.

Hope you feel better soon! When my friends brother had to have an operation on his jaw and was in one of those metal head brace things (lol, ATTRACTIIIIVE) it was around xmas time and friend's mum blended their xmas dinner and he ate it through a straw PMSL. Perhaps that's the way to go

Hope you feel better soon!x

You poor thing! Mars drinks are quite good as thick and so will fill you up, I use them as a food replacement when I am short on time. I am a fussy eater and can completely understand your predicament. I loathe mash potato but like Sweet Potato. Stuff like pasta sauces should be ok. You can always soak torn up bread in it to thicken it up but it will still be sloppy.

You can make interesting ice creams if you have an ice cream making machine.

Also look at getting smoothie straws as they are bigger than ordinary straws.

Hope you get well soon and do not have to have it plated.

Oh my goodness poor you:(
Hope you heal very quickly and dont require any further work.
Haven't read all th replies, but many moons ago I used to work on a Max Fax (maxillofacial) unit and alot of our patients had their jaws wired together, I remember one patient put on alot of weight while wired, we found this a bit unusual, turned out they had been liquidising fish and chips and Mars bars and sucking it up through a straw:eek: cant say I fancy that though!

Might be an idea to ask at the hospital if you can get some dietary advice from a dietician

Really sorry to read this. Poor, poor you.

I know that I coped with glandular fever using chocolate mousse, but I still dropped to 7 stone in three months. Not advisable - couldn't walk across the room without passing out!

Look after yourself, please!

Ouch :(, sounds really painful! Fingers crossed things goes to plan and it doesn't need plating.

In terms of food, how about custard? My brother lost a couple of teeth playing hockey and lived off the stuff for a few weeks along with lots of yoghurts.

Poor you that sounds awful. I hope the news is good when you go back this week.
I can't think of any foods that haven't already been meantioned, there are alot of calories in alcohol though!!! Not that your probably alowed with all the painkillers your on though :(
Get well soon and hopefully the 6 weeks will fly by

Ahhh Hun feeling for you. I can confirm chocolate dessert baby food is very nice and the apple sauce ones but the pasta ones make me want to gag yuk. Send your parents out to get you mcdonalds milkshakes. Why has the doctor said no sugar? I would havesome sugary stuff or you will feel worse xx

Ouch you poor thing....stock up on complan. It is vile but will do the job. A word of warning though....do not over do it as you could get sick which will be agony. I use it when I get ulcers on my throat (vile huge things that are excruciating to eat with)

Thanks for all the kind words, and food ideas! Having said that I can't say I have much appetite at the moment (all i've had is a mug of soup since Thursday)!!!!! Any ideas on how to occupy myself, i'm already bored out of my mind!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! U poor thing :( you're having rotten luck :(

I hope you're feeling a bit better this morning, and I've got everything crossed for you re: finding someone to help with ponies

Come on here, join twitter and watch loads of crap tv you never normally get to watch. Do you want me to send you some magazines ? Xxx

OUCH!!!!! POOR YOU.

Innocent Smoothies....Activia Pouring Yoghurt.... get your slaves to make yummy casserole in the slow cooker then blend. You could have anything from Chicken Chasseur to Beef Bourginon.

Good luck

Oh Charlimouse, what an awful freak accident - poor poor you. I've no ideas for food that haven't already been mentioned I'm afraid.
As for ideas about how to occupy yourself I can only think of the obvious - books, DVDs but I realise it's hard to motivate yourself when you are in pain. Do you have lots of bits of videos of your horses on the computer? Maybe make some 'movies' of individual horses and post links on here so we can all enjoy them.
Fingers crossed + vibes that everything heals well without any more intervention xx

Unfortunately Sunday Tv is rubbish, golf, rugby or F1, my idea of hell. On a different note i noticed C4 was showing the European wheelchair fencing champs, it did make me wonder why they don't show more horse stuff (racing not included!). I think i'll have to raid the DVD collection.
