hi, i am doing research for a project at college on celebraties in the equine world and would like to know your opinions on celebraties such as Katie Price. What do you think she brings to the Equine World? is she welcome? are her performances at shows such as HOYS appreciated or should she sink into the background much like other horsey celebraties ( Leona Lewis)? do we benifit from people like her and the publicity they bring?
Thank you!

i think she is a really nice person and a fantastic rider. She has worked very hard and deserved to ride at hoys.
.............cat............pigeons.

cant stand her.

purely due to her lies (rape claim),,, what she puts her kids through etc....for that then i cant stand her

but yeah - can....worms lol.

\hi just to say its my daughter not me...lol...I know all the answers that usually come along but am encouraging her to research and who better to ask than you lot x thanks in advance (please be gentle with her as she may join the forum lol)

Personally don't agree with how she gets the 'privilege' to ride at hoys because she is a minor celebrity from being a glamour model that can't stay out of the press. Many horse people work hard for years to get there and she seems to get it handed to her and an amazing horse schooled by professionals, whereas she has to do is sit there and not fall off.
I know she can ride, but i don't think she should be given certain advantages because of her being tabloid hungry.
And no i do not think she does a good job as promoting horse riding as a serious sport. She managers to make it seem like anyone can do it (ride at hoys level) and requires no skill. She is no committed to the sport and doesn't seem to take it seriously.
Also do not get me started on her horsewear clothing line, nothing in there i would wear on think is suitable for horse riding.
Needless to say i am NOT fan! Rant over

Ditto this! Couldn't have said it better myself!

100% agree!

I'm not a fan, but I do think you're all being a little harsh.....

To comment on two of your points:

There are many amatuers out there who have professionals keeping their horses sweet. I'm not condoning it, but you really shouldn't single this out as not normal.
I know of two locally to me, who get on the horse after the trainer has ridden it, and when it's not going well, the reins are handed over all together.
Personally this is not for me, but they are out there, and lets be honest, if money were no object you'd have the best you could buy, and if you were not able to ride 7 days a week and could afford to pay a proffessional to school your horse then why not.

My mum is 64, and physically cannot ride her advanced dressage horse 7 days a week because she's another two at home and gets knackered sometimes, or lacks time so the yard owner - who is a semi pro dressage rider, sits on him once a week, and does a good job on him - is this really any different.

As for whether she takes it seriously, unless you have access to her daily itinary, I don't actually think any of us are in the position to comment.

And to repeat, i'm not a fan, but I think some are very OTT when it comes to Katie Price - live and let live I say...... nothing she does personally effects any of us

PS - I wouldn't buy any of the clothing because I don't like it, but it doesn't make me well up with emotion thinking about it.

Tin hat on and ready to run for cover ........ !!!

Personally I think she's a dreadful woman but...

Its not about her riding ability. Whether she's good bad or indifferent is irrelevant, its more about the fact that the horse industry wants people like her to conjour up interest in horses and riding with the wider public which in turn brings revenue into the industry.

The only other thing I think is a shame is that she doesn't buy a good horse for the national dressage team.

i think for me Katie Price riding at HOYS brought it down a level. i dislike her for many reasons and when it comes to the equine world she sums up 'part timers' who like to say they have horses, but do not do the work involved with them. i personally dont see anything attractive about her, she wasnt pretty to begin with and she certainly rocks the drag queen look in more ways than one, the way she is milking her ivf failures even though she openly drinks when ''trying''. the fact that she moved a new man into her kids life weeks after she split from peter, the way her children are dragged about whilst she ''works'', the fact she milks having a special need child and how hard it is even though harvey spends 85% of his time at a SENCO boarding school and with a nanny. i know very close friends who have lost everything trying to concieve and i have worked with SENCO children. i dislike almost everything about her, and her clothing range is horrific, all of them, especially the way she feels the need to sexualise her children.

a friend of mine summed it up because she has been working hard for years when it comes to HOYS and the fact that katie got to ride just because she is a celeb with a passing interest in horses was a kick in the teeth to alot of serious riders.

Jesus 'newtothis' you're almost litgious......

Why do most posts on this forum have to turn into bitching and back biting - it's so unnessary. The British Dressage Forum never degenerates to this, and I think it's a great shame that people can't be pleasant and stick to factual comments rather than slanging matches

Honestly, most just sound like sour grapes........ and to repeat, i'm not a fan.

Now hiding in a lead lined box.......

she has good horses because of all the money...but aren't most/a lot of top riders at the top because of family money and what they were born into.

Could not agree more, though I completely admire how clever she is, yes maybe she has got horses that are trained for her, but then does she have the time and experience that OBVIOUSLY everyone (so they say) has on this forum to back, train and ride her horses every day? OK so maybe HOYS wasn't so great, and as I've pointed out she was given a horse trained for her, but surely that should egg others on to think, 'hang on, KP rode at HOYS, I'd love to ride there, I'm going to try hard to get there or something like that instead of sitting there dwelling on someone that gets things handed out to them on a plate?

millimoo - have you another box please?!! =/

To a degree, but it does take talent at top level...... (Laura B has the money and the talent as an example, whereas Carl Hester is talent)

maybe it's because I am so old but I can't see why the fact she rides and has nice horses upsets so many people. I'm not a fan, I wouldnt be happy if my niece held her to be a role model of how to make money but she's very shrewd, successful and seems to have fun with her horses. considering the non-horse world doesnt know any better and doesnt give a flying buck (see what I did there ;) ) I don't think she does any harm.

I don't particularly like her as an individual, but as the OP's question is on celebrities in the equine world, I would suggest keeping the botox and children aside:
A lot of people who don't particularly know a lot about the equine world seem to assume that it is a world where money can get you to the top. I was sad when Katie rode at HOYS because I don't think it did anything to dampen these thoughts, if nothing it made them worse.
I don't disagree with the way she keeps her horses, I just don't think she deserves to be riding at HOYS.
I also wish she would keep the vile pink clothing range away from me, I hate going to my local saddlery for things only to be greeted by shining gross bling.

Fair play to her if she creates a positive image and draws new viewers however I was cross when after riding the Dressage display at HOYS which was awful (no I couldn't done any better) she blamed it on the horse. That to me just smacked of spoilt brat.

Sour grapes, no the fact that i miscarried my baby at the same time she allegedly did, and i was also ACTUALLY sexually assaulted and raped and after being in contact with many ''survivors'' and councillors it takes alot for someone to come to terms with rape and it can be terriffying to report it. katie price undid alot of good work the day she chose to lie.
i hate hate hate her for trying to gain sympathy with such horrific lies. for example, ou do not run a marathon whilst you are miscarrying, and i watched her doing sit ups in a documentary awilst she was training for the marathon, something which every pregnant woman is strongly advised against.

katie price has a very good agent and business advisers.

Just remembered, there was a really good post a while ago asking about famous people forum members had met through their horses. I was quite surprised who was horsey and the fact that i'd never known. May be worth a trawl of the archives.
I think Katie Price differs as she is famous for being tabloid fodder, and my perception is that she measures her success by her exposure......
I think if the question was asked to cover any celebrity you may get a more balanced and sensible response rather than singling out Ms Price :-)

Excellent post NTT, hear hear!

From what I recall from an early edition of 'Faking It' she's been involved with horses from a very young age so I don't think it's a fad.

I very much admire her work ethic and her sheer determination to succeed as a business woman (she has amassed a vast fortune based on very little actual talent) and her unremitting drive - although I wouldn't want to meet her!

I agree that there is a LOT of unnecessary bitching about her but I also think she feeds on all and any publicity as it keeps her in the public eye and the money rolling in.

Oh dear, we're off on one again! Sorry, OP, my reply was facetious. If your daughter is seriously researching the effect of celebrities on the horse industry I think she'd do better to concentrate on someone other than Katie Price (about whom I know little except that she's famous for being famous, has an ex called Peter and a pink horsebox), she is a little, shall we say, bleedin' obvious. How about Martin Clunes, for example, who has recently become a Big Cheese in the BHS? Now I'm sure he comes across as Mr Nice Guy and is an ambassador for the horse world.

I reckon some 'proper' research would turn up some celebrity ambassadors for riding, KP is an obvious and easy option imo.

Oh dear, this has gone down the swaney a tad but i'll add my two cents anyway.

Katie, to me, is actually an extreamly easy going person. She's nice to talk to (not up her own butt crack like everyone seems to think she is) and always open to her fans.
Sure, she's not a Grand Prix rider, to be quite honest I couldn't give a rats ass if she was all I know is I'd buy a Grand Prix horse if I had the money she has ;)
I'd also wear a ton of designer clothes while riding, have custom things made for me and have a clothing line (though maybe not the garish pink...).

To me, she's making a good living from what she's got. She's into horses but has a life outside (weather she goes to parties is really no ones business) her horses are well looked after and cared for and to me, that's all that matters.
I think she's publisized the sport, but 50/50 good and bad. Unfortunatly that's the way it goes.

Katie is a very big influence on me, I've always been a fan because the way she markets herself is exactly what I want to do.

I don't see the massive problem. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen one perfect rider (and before anyone digs, I'm far from perfect myself) on this forum, nor have I seen anyone with the time to back, train and pamper their own horses 24/7.
She's just doing what any normal human being would do in her situation and I admire her for that.

But, I am very jelous of her boobage :D

Is this true about Martin Clunes? I know he likes horses and has a few, and I've seen the show, but, whats he doing for the BHS?
