Katie Price to ride at HOYS

[ QUOTE ]
I think it's a shame that someone who has money and is famous can ride at HOYS just because of who they are, yet some people in the horse world have worked so hard for years with a goal of achieving this aim. I just think it's a bit unfair really.

[/ QUOTE ]
Huh? Who is going to turn up to see some nobody who worked really hard do a dressage display? No one !

Celebs sell and more people = more money and a boost for the sport.

So we should all stop moaning, because Jordan and Zara are doing more for the sport than anyone can possibly achieve on hard work alone. Lets just hope another celeb takes up SJ'ing and we get better venues and more shows!

Can anyone think of an equestrian discipline where the tone has not been lowered below floor level?
Only I have two daughters ...........

I believe they're retaining an air of snootiness in polo cos they would'nt let KP have a table at the Cartier int'l! Maybe you'll have to have a go at that!!

She is always wildly successful in what she does even if you don't particularly agree with what she does. She's not stupid.

That's true Kate. I do agree that any publicity is good publicity. I guess that's what BSJA were thinking too with their latest er... 'campaign'

Cotswolds, I'm not moaning and I certainly wasn't talking about 'a nobody'. I was just saying that there are other people (well known) who have actually worked for their right to ride at HOYS and Jordan hasn't IMHO.

She's not competing though - she's in the entertainment category with Andrew Gould giving her a lesson in public

Not quite the same thing as qualifying and competing at HOYS!

Yep - I'm confused!!

Masterclasses at events are usually whoever is training with the person at that point in time.

Example on H&C Tv there was someone riding a horse in the Emile Faurie masterclass, no idea who though, which is usually the case.

I agree with you CotswoldSJ. It isn't like she's bypassed a qualifier or anything, she was invited to go - more a celebrity guest appearance than anything IMO, so it matters not who has worked hard to get there, those that are competing there got there through sheer hard work, not the same as being invited to entertain.

Shes riding in a demo being taught by Andrew - i personally say good on her. Whatever she wants to do is up to her, i think it will pull the crowds in.

i cant see what all the hype is about, shes just trying to do something she loves doing.

Ive heard the Medstead RUMOUR but im pretty sure its not true.

I really cannot believe the amount of negative comments Katie gets - Tarrsteps, Cotswold, Tempi et al are right, exposure is GOOD, she is showing that actually she loves riding and she may not set the world on fire but she is having a go and enjoying it. You have to remember that a lot of youngsters go to HOYS and she has sold a lot of books to said youngsters - they love the fact she loves pink and bling, so I think she is a good ambassador for them. Sure, she made most of her money getting her tits out, but she doesn't cross sex over into her riding...that is the mistake that BSJA made (and couldn't even make it look glam!).

I am looking forward to watching her personally and shall give her a very big clap!

I just love Katie Price! (not in a lesbian way) She is amazing and she works her extreme hardest to achieve what she wants, im pleased she took up dressage, i do think she will become a better rider though all her training (I can only dream if its me that get all the training! lol) If she did buy an equestrian centre, she will probably work her hardest to making it one of the best

Endurance - although they look like chavvy ramblers on horseback *ducks*

[/ QUOTE ]

maybe so, but they are usually cheerful looking chavvy ramblers on horseback, unlike some other disciplines where the competitors look as though they've had a sense of humour bypass

I don't recall seeing any shell suits, massive gold jewelry or Burberry accessories at any of the endurance rides I've been to.

I think she's great, she doesn't take herself too seriously and is a shrewd cookie on the business front. Good luck to her I say.

Which ever side of the Katie Price divide you are on, I don't think she belongs in the same breath as Zara.

I think putting Katie Price and Zara in the same category would be unfair.

Yes they may both be famous in their own right, but I think that is were the similarity ends.

I think KP is doing the same thing as anyone else with money who fancies ago with horses, would do.
She buys v expensive horse, top instructor on tap and the best of everything. I'm sure anyone with endless money would do the same and would progress equally as fast.

I find the woman offensive, the way she 'earned' large amounts of money offensive and her wittering about horses even more offensive!

It's a great press opportunity.

I woke in the equi department of a hardware store, the only horsey girl there. Every Friday I take my copy of horse and hound and leave it in the tea room. And for the first time I caught someone else reading it because I'd left it open at the first page with the picture of Katie riding in the polo match. My collegue went on to read more of the magazine.

I'm all for any good publicity. It's not like she's going to be riding in her underwear.

Think all the extra interest is good for dressage but not convinced her riding is up to giving displays just yet
smile.gif

She does like her girly pink and WOW would make her a pink saddle - I just hope it fits her horse!

Me, too. I don't care how much money she throws at the sport, she is no rider. Putting her and Zara into the same bracket (ambassadors for equestrianism) I find ridiculous and actually quite an insult to Zara. She has talent and charisma and hasn't come barging in through the side door.

I can't understand the interest in her or what she is trying to achieve at all. She should stick to being pink and loud................

I really do like KP and I do think that like it or not she will bring more interest to the sport.
If she hadn't competed, opened her own tack business and/or been asked to do this demo then we would be sat around on here complaining that we do not get enough attention and coverage the sport deserves.
I am sure you would all prefer KP, who has loved and owned horses to someone who has never really been around them? Yes she made money getting her boobs out and alot of people do not like that but face it, it has got her a long way and she is trying to let the hard work pay off.

Im sorry but beggers cannot be choosers!
You can't choose who comes into the sport and tries to gain more coverage for it, but I am sure some is better than none at all.

sorry, but who was begging?

I am constantly amazed at the drive to get MORE people into everything - sport, pony club, girl guides, the local riding club, tennis, I don't know, everything.

Why?

Why does more mean better?

I'd rather be part of something with less people, who are more committed, have better standards, and care about decency and fair play, and the aims and objectives of the original organisation/movement/sport/club, than have another couple of thousand people who don't really give one, and just put the numbers up.

Less can indeed be more.

Well said! After all, this is Katie Price we are now talking about, not Jordan. She admits that Jordan is a persona, a glamour model etc. She is Katie Price, a business woman and horse rider.

I think she is brilliant!! I got terribly upset today when I found we weren't making the annual family pilgrimage to HOYS this year, because my step mum and I would have LOVED to see her!!!

And as for comparing her with Zara, I think that was meant financially rather than talent-wise.

As in, they are both similar in the way they both get heavy critism for having it given to them on a plate - Zara by her family and Katie by her money.

I like both to be honest, and although Zara would usually be classed by me as the "SilverSpoon League", I like her! They both add glamour to the sport!

x

Zara may incidentally add glamour, but erm, she has a huge talent, and is competing at top international level, where no amount of silver spoons will help her unless she is seriously GOOD, which she is.
That is NOT comparable to buying your way in, potentially ruining a good horse, and mouthing off to the gutter press.
Sorry. No comparison.

I don't think there will be all that much interest TBH... She's an OK rider, but I can see OK riders every day (and then some!) and I would hazzard a guess that the people who go to HOYS can too. Honestly truthfully if it were me who was asked to perform at HOYS (and I actually think I'm at least as good a rider as she is) I'd be incredibly intimidated by the other talent on display there!
On the other hand, I could have HOYS completely wrong!
blush.gif

Nope. I think you have summed HOYS up pretty well PF
smile.gif
. Tourists and non-horsey folks may be interested but decent riders probably wouldn't be, except some to giggle perhaps
confused.gif
.

I wish her well - I think "good on her", she isn't a good rider but hey at least she is trying.
smile.gif

See I think horsey folk ARE interested - I am, I want to see how fast she progresses with unlimited training and money - it is something lots of us would like to be able to do, and I think it will be rather fascinating to watch, as Katie Price on a horse is just a girl on a horse with a level of talent and ability that most people can relate to. TBH it isn't any different than watching a Masterclass at YHL, which are always over-subscribed. I am looking forward to it!

Perhaps the BSJA might note that more people are talking about katie price/jordan with her clothes ON.......They might ask her to do some marketing for them, clearly she has more idea than they do.
and fair play to her for trying. it is hard enough to ride, let alone ride well, for the average person, let alone in front of an audience. and before anyone says she is a victim of her own PR machine, does anyone really think having someone like her riding at even local shows could have been kept quiet.
i think she is pretty brave to put herself on the spot like this, she doesnt have too and she is far too bright to have an inflated idea of her own ability.

Love her or Lothe her, she has given the sport more publicity in the last few months than any 'top' riders
