It seems you are confused KS in the press it says is to ridden by Laura Collet and the trainer is to be Yogi Brenisner .
LC is an almost unnaturally talented event rider and YB is one of the top six trainers in the world of event horses who has always had an interest in the racing world .I can think of a no better team to oversee the start of this horses second life.
Your comparison is so silly I could find video do some god awful trainers yard with awful dull looking TBs and say there you are that what going on PNs yard but it would be nonsense .
 
I can see why Nicholls was a bit annoyed with Smith, he has been in that yard for nine years and to have him taken away with less than a days notice for a horse that has given him and his staff so much who love him to pieces (more than Smith) must have been heartbreaking

I do think its great he is going to another career though, i just wish nicholls would have been given maybe a weeks or even just a few more days notice. There is no better man than Yogi to asses him and as laura collet has pointed out he will be treated with the upmost care. I think kauto will tell them if he doesn't take to dressage, if he doesnt im sure laura, yogi and clive smith will think of something else. I just think nicholls should have got more of an input as him and his staff know kauto much better than smith.

I now wonder if nicholls and smith's relationship both personal and business is completely ruined?
 
I'm pretty sure that when it was announced that KS was retiring, there was some news footage about him going to stud and the usual remarks about "nice work if you can get it!" as a stallion.

Was due to make something like £15m in stud fees. Maybe he fires blanks of not up to standard.

Yes I agree it would be common courtesy to inform the trainer properly but I'm afraid if anyone really cared for the horse there would be no need to insist he was sent to the new yard with a moment's notice. Sounds like tit for tat and a long standing communication problem.

My point was why would the trainer mind the horse being a dressage horse, where is the harm in a new career.
 
Actually the horse was to stay til Boxing Day. Nichols is the reason for his abrupt departure. When it became clear he was not going to stay on to be a happy hack and mascot, Nichols said fine, he can leave today.

But that's not what the article said. The trainer decided the horse was to be removed that afternoon.

I think you will find that turnout is a natural part of the life of both the Gold medal winner at the Olympics, Valegro and his stable mate Uthopia. As it is for the vast majority of horses in this country.
 
Given who he has gone to, rider and trainer, it is almost certain, surely, that the horse is being assessed for eventing and that the unequinated press have got it wrong?

Yes it does seem weird that he is being assessed for dressage but going to an eventing yard with an event rider with an eventing trainer? i can understand yogi as he does know racing (he coaches jockeys etc) but laura collet? no offence shes a great rider but why not a pure dressage rider? i suppose because out of dressage and eventing eventing is more similar to racing plus a dressage yard would be such a change for him!

agreed

carl hester turns all his horses out reguarly and thinks very horse owner in the world should do the same. Uthopia could not compete abroad once because he lost a shoe in the field and was sore but did carl regret turning him out? no, he said what any decent owner would say, its just one of those things!

I think it's more likely it because the best person to assess such a horse for a second career and oversee its early retraining is YB. If I was asked to guess I would say those who really know what's going on are probally open minded about what will be best in the long term.
 
My personal view is that he IS being assessed for eventing, but we all know he has speed and can jump, what is not known is how he would take to dressage. So my thinking is that he is been taken into training to see if he could do the dressage part before wasting time in training show jumping and cross country.
 
At the end of the day Clive Smith owns the horse and has paid all his bills for the 8 or so years he was at Ditcheat. Clive can do what he likes with his horse.

I thought eventing as soon as I saw that he had gone to LC, not an obvious choice to start a dressage career. I would also be concerned though that he would not be sufficiently careful to event safely. He would be a bit like Opposition Buzz standing off a stride out, a bit scary potentially. Could also be spectacularly good.

Big suggestion in the article that the trainer thought he was going to be given him to keep as a massive PR machine, and threw him out with less than 24 hours notice when the owner made clear this was not his intention.

He may have been there for 9 years but they charged for every minute of that time and every little incidental extra. They seem to have forgotten that.

The owner also seems to be suggesting that they were deliberately prevaricating and preventing the horse from leaving.

Very odd, more to it than meets the eye, I think.

I met Red Rum when he came to my Grandpa's 60th Birthday Party, I know it sounds a bit humiliating but he loved it and looked very happy. He came in to the function hall and walked around, graciously allowing people to talk to him. He knew he was a super star, like i'm sure Kauto does.
(I don't think Rummie ever opened supermarkets? Could be worng).
