As I went to check my horse last night, one of the others kicked him leaving him with a very deep wound just above the fetlock joint.
Called the vet out immediately and she thinks it could be a hairline fracture - he is now on 2 weeks box rest, may need an xray if he's still sore later today and the whole thing is just devastating :(
Anyway, as he's going to be in for 2 weeks, how can I keep him cool? His stable is like an oven in the daytime. I've asked the Yo if I can move him to the barn which is open and cooler and she's going to see what she can do but in the mean time, any suggestions?

Wet towels and sheets on the walls....has worked a treat for me in the past. No idea why...it just did.

Hope it isn't a fracture but at least you have got it all under control quickly and I hope he will be ok. Hugs xx

Our wooden stables aren't too bad, I think they are in the shade for the heat of the day, but I'm going into week 12 of box rest so I feel your pain. I make sure he has loads of water, and whenever I am there I run a damp cloth over all the thin skinned areas in the hope it will help. On the hottest days I have hosed him off when I get there at 4.30 ish (hottest time a lot of the time) and then stuck him back in the shade of his stable again in the hope that the drying effect will cool him. Luckily it seems to be cooling a bit atm :o

Like the towel idea, will definitely try that :)
Thank you - I hope so too. It's so lucky that I saw it happen otherwise he would have been out on it all night and dread to think how it would be today :(
