Kevin Bacon???

I've never tried the Kevin Bacon hoof stuff, but what I have found works is lard, melted down with some vegetable oil and then allowed to set again. the lard is brilliant for hooves, but the oil mixed in means that it doesn't set rock hard again. You can also vary how much oil you put in, so more oil in winter means you can always paint it on...

Might mix in some stockholm tar...

Will give the bayleaf a miss though!

No that does make sense and thinking about it that way, I can see you're right! It was just a tip my farrier gave me! I didn't think about it that technically! I will question him next time I see him!!

I agreee with your farrier - as does MY farrier! If you wet the feet first and then put KB's on, the KB's traps the water next to the hoof and as the water is sucked in by the hoof, the KB's follows.

Some years back I bought a stallion who'd been kept in a sand compound for YEARS! His feet were SO dry they had what looked like barnacles growing on them! Hosed them daily and whacked on the KB's - within a few weeks he had healthy normal feet again!

And Kevin Bacon is a VERY well known Australian showjumping rider - although virtually retired now (hell, he's older than me!) He represented Oz at 3 Olympic Games. First in 1964 with Ocean Foam, 1968 with Chichester, and 1976 with Chichester again. Last I heard he was living in Paris.

I remember KB with Chichester. Chichester was a little black horse and quite wiry not much of him but could he jump.

Wasn't Kevin Bacon the old Australian showjumper years back that use to jump an shire x, big black horse?

Ahh so that's who he is , didnt think the actor bloke off the tele would have time to faf with this stuff..

Sorry - decending into total stupidity - may have to shut myself in a darkened stable for a few hours!!
