Hello everyone,

Through a very good friend I have come across a YouTube video of some girls who used to ride at a riding school I helped at.

In this video they are riding a 4 year old 12.1/2 pony called Spirit.
This pony was broken to ride, drive and jump at 3 years old.
In the video a girl chases the poor pony with a whip, continuously striking him. The girl ridding the pony is continuously booting him.
Then finally a girl is waiting at the makeshift jump with another whip to hit him as he goes over.

I personally think this is disgusting!

I would like to know if it is just me who thinks this or this is a general opinion.

Also does this really go on else where? Do parents not stop them?

Are the girls still at the same riding school? If so, ring the owner and tell them some girls are abusing a pony at their place.

If not, do you know who they are, know where they live? If so, write a letter to their parents and direct them to the video.

Report the video to the RSPCA and WHW.

Doesn't look so very bad to me; looks like a green pony being made to jump when it doesn't want to go, not abusive as such?

Think the jump building leaves a lot to be desired, pony could easily have got tangled up in that wire. Pony is still young and yes it may need encouraging but that's not the way to go about it, rider could do with some lessons. I agree with boxers, speak/write to the parents, or ring WHW for advice. Think this is mainly down to lack of supervision, and education. Just asking for trouble.

How are they running it into the ground? I agree its a bit unsavoury and they look like little bullies but its a few seconds, I'm not sure how you have reached the conclusions you have from that short clip. If you know who these girls are why don't you speak to the parents (who may be completely oblivious) rather than post on here?

ETA its branches/twigs not wire?!

like the comment 'needed lots of encouragement'....

yeh i can see why.......

Encouragement is not whipping the **** out of it. Which I'm sure we all agree.

I just couldn't believe what they were doing to this poor pony. Just found out its not 4 just yet, a few months off. I honestly think given the pony only being 12.1/2 a jump this size at that age is just asking for trouble.

Plus made up off all those branches and twigs and everything anything could happen/get caught :(

I agree, glad to know its not just me :(

OFGS! It got one swipe on the bum, and NOTHING happened except it jumped the twigs.

You are totally over reacting.

The pony could (and did) just smash through it, it was a few twigs, what on earth could "happen/get caught"?! You wanna see the terrain we go through every day and the branches are still attached to the tree :rolleyes:

I do not know the parents.
This collusion is made from a lot of other videos I have seen along with photos of how they treat it and other ponies.
This is nothing to what they normally do from what I have seen.

I am glad to see people's different opinions. I will take the advice and attempt to contact the parents, as is said they may be oblivious.

No, no, no.
These are girls I used to know and I didn't think they would do this sort of thing.
I just simply wondered if it was only me who thought it was cruel and not sensible or this was the general idea.

The clip is 12 seconds long and you make a thread accusing them of "running the pony into the ground"?

And wasn't it yesterday you were asking about loose jumping your two year old?

Now I know that thread went the way of "don't do it", but that you had to even ask strikes me as rather odd for a person to then turn round and point the finger at a few children from a twelve second clip.

If you know them say something, this trial by internet/forum is chilling enough but to do it to children?

Thank god Youtube wasn't about when I was a silly kid on a pony (and a borrowed pony at that)

If you have concerns, I'd speak to the children's parents rather than posting videos of kids on a forum.

Well I hate to quote Black Beauty here but it is only ignorance not being deliberately mean. So whilst you can all rail about it, I posted what I hoped would be an encouraging comment as yelling that they're being evil won't help.

Again my post was asking is loose jumping was a done thing. I continuously expressed how I didn't want to and didn't think it was right before 5 yrs

sorry when i say 'needed encouragment'

i meant if they had done that to the young horse before - then yeh it would need encouragement to get over the jump wouldnt it....... 'if i go near the jump i get a whip up my butt'.......

so hit horse more to get it over the jump....... yep it figures

TBH I think most of us older members may look back and cringe at things we did as teenagers. I know I do. I suspect the teenagers in the video don't realise that what they are doing is wrong and I don't think they are deliberately wanting to cause harm. Hopefully when they get older they will look back and also cringe as some of us do now!
