Anyone else have a king charles ? Just a random thread as me and a friend of mine were discussing them yesterday. My king charles seems to be 'fat' and so does hers lol. Not sure if its just ours? Or if its just the breed. Can someone confirm this ? :) I feel like a numpty for asking this:rolleyes: thanks :)

I think they seem prone to being a bit porky as they get treated like cute dogs and get carried around and not walked far as they are small and cute. I would walk them the same way as I walk my dogs ie off the lead for at least 45 mins at a time and of course watch their food especially treats. Neutered dogs of course put weight on quicker and are slower to lose it.:)

i bring him for walks everyday for bout 30 mins :) His diet is pretty good too but he gets a sneaky treat now and then :D :D Not able to let him off the lead though as we are near a main road (he is outside around the back with a gate at the side) and he would get killed lol :)

Hi. Ive got a 20 month, nuetered King Charles. i think he was about 10 kg last Sept. My daughters one is a year older and he is a bit heavier. They both look quite chunky but do go out for good long walks. A friend has a small bitch who seems tiny compared to them. I think it would depend on the size of the dogs because they do vary quite a bit in size. Mind you my boy might look bigger than he is because he has loads of hair.

I'm not sure that I understand. Are you saying that your dog lives in a run, with only 1/2 hour exercise a day?

I bring him for walks for about half an hour a day. And he also gets outside around the back too for free exercise. He is fed the pedigree dog nuts :p

You need to change him to a better food. Pedigree is full of horrible rubbish. Try fish4dogs.

He needs more exercise. I personally think every dog should have at least an hour a day.

We have tried him on different foods and he doesn't eat them :/ He gets more than an hour of exercise a day as he goes for walks for 30mins and he is outside for most of the day, well when ever its not cold here lol!

What Kt said mine is on fish4puppys and she is very slender, she needs her exercise, she loves to run and run and run and well run, and hunt, and she is learning from the pointer who is her hunt buddy, she just cannot keep up with him right now, and never will Lol:D:D but she tries her heart out :D

Well if he doesn't eat the food it should help him lose weight.:p Sorry being flippant there, seriously I would count just being outside as exercise, he will probably just be pottering around. As others have said try and up his exercie on the lead, walking briskly, and if you can't let him off near home because of the main road is there anywhere else you can walk where you can give him some off lead exercise, ball chasing or similar. I am not sure if KC are prone to heart problems like cavis, but anyway it is never healthy for a dog to be overweight.

I know MM was being flip - but I do believe is quite right! I hear this all the time from people "my dog won't eat ____________" so we feed him XXXX. And the XXXX is sometimes stuff like table scraps, Chappie, Butchers, Pedigree, Caesars, or even steak and potato made just for them. OF COURSE HE WON'T EAT THE OTHER STUFF! If given a choice, dogs will usually opt for the more fattening stuff cos it tastes better to them - but then we are just the same, aren't we?!

Dogs won't starve themselves (unless perhaps there is some sort of serious medical condition). And if given enough time, they will eat what is given them. I would not try this with an underweight dog though...but that's not the issue here? ;)

Toy breeds of any type are kind of hard to keep their weight correct - it's sooooo easy to overfeed them. It's the part of our brain that sees a few kibbles of food being dropped in to the dish and we think "awww, that can't be right, lemme just put another dozen in there or so". LOL

Been out all day and just realised the typo in my post, it should have said "I would NOT count just being outside as exercise".
And part of me did mean it yes, if they are hungry they will eat!

Yes, I really don't think it's fair to say shutting a dog in a garden counts as exercise :(
