He is very rideable and loves his work. However he tries to walk all over me on the ground, but I'm not sure if that's just him or typical of the type.
here he is at 5yrs. sorry it's so big, I'm still practising with the photo bit !
Yep i used to have a mare he was her grand sire, excellent jumper, very bold! He is ranked quite high on the list of sires of successfull show jumpers, i'm sure if you google him you will have a lot of results.
The foal due in the next few weeks traces to King of Diamonds. The sire I used is by Coolcorron Cool Diamond who is by Glidawn Diamond by King of Diamonds & his mare also traces to King of Diamonds as she is by Spring Diamond who is by Flagmount Boy a King of Diamonds son. King of Diamonds was ranked 7th as a sire of show jumpers from '90 to '95 & was bred at Slyguff Stud in Co Carlow.
Ditto Rambo !
But for the record my 3yo great grandsire is KoD and the horse I qualified for BD regionals last year had KoD as grandsire. Both were nice horses.
But it seems virtually any ISH traces back to KoD or clover hill
I have two!! Both my boys have Flagmount Diamond and Jack of Diamonds as there grandads - both are smashing horses fabulous temp and loads of jump!! I also had a Diamond Serpent horse a few years ago and he was equally as nice!!
Good Luck for later!!!
Hi AM, my mare is GS KOD and is very sure to type, chestnut with white blaze, either that or they tend to be grey. I have heard in the past that they are all a bit sharp, but I personally like that in a horse ;-) Shes a super honest jumper and would jump anything from anywhere, but shes quite sensitive to how you ask her. As long as you do ask shell do anything for you. I would have another in an instant, good luck!
My horse is by Glidawn Diamond (My horsie is called Glidawn King) so King of Diamonds is his Grand sire. His dam was a TB.
I can vouch for the fantastic jumping ability - mine is a star - loves his jumping and is very reliable to Show jump.
On the downside - he is a bit of a tank and actually really quite fast forward at times - but that makes him nice to jump as he is so willing, but he can get a bit bouncy on rides out with big groups.
Also - we used to have a horse at our yard a long time ago called Hadrian - who was out of King of Diamond - and he was ACE... Very calm and a superstar show jumper and hunter.
Overall I would say they are lovely horses tho - fingers crossed the one you see is lovely too!
Grade B, impressive card and actually a lovely stamp of a horse, such a character!!But she was the equine version of Nora Batty...would never harm a fly, just loved to pull faces!!She also had stringhalts aswell, possibly nothing to do woth KoD though!!
Lol, everything coming out of here is King of Diamonds, Cruising/Seacrest or Clover Hill
KOD - rideable, flashy jumpers but necessarily big jumpers. More sensible than the other 2 but not convinced a horse's GS has a huge influence personally.
The grey in my sigi was by King Of Diamonds out of a TB mare and was an absolute star! Had him from he was 7 untill he passed away 2 yrs ago at 24! Would have another one in a flash if I could as his temp and ability were brill - on the down side he wouldnt have been the easiest of rides but gave me years of fun.
Pidge has King of Diamonds as his great grandad on his dams side
and he has the green ISH passport in which his pedigree is shown (blood tested as well I believe)
He is very affectionate and has a huge personality. He's very easy to do bar getting a bit grumpy at feed times. Will do anything he is asked to do, and adores his jumping
totally agree with Rambo, my instructor says that the king of diamond bloodline is now that diluted if the horse is under 10 years old then it isn't king of diamonds.
we laugh about people who say their horse is out of king of diamonds - another good one is 'hunted in ireland' as most have been, but not schooled or have any manners like my boy when i bought him.

Used to be a KoD mare on the SJ yard I was at...she was the equine version of Nora Batty...would never harm a fly, just loved to pull faces!!

That sums my horse up to a tee. She is the great-great-great granddaughter of King of Diamonds, so a lot of dilution in the bloodline. But for the record, she is a spirited, feisty mare that doesn't need the company of other horses, she is quite independent. She is a brave and honest jumper but only just turned 6 so still has more to give. She can be a handful. We will have to sell her next year as my daughter is going to Uni and she's too much for me, but she will be sorely missed as she has such character and has been very rewarding to bring on. She is showing huge promise in dressage, SJ and XC; she is a total all-rounder.
His great grandsire is king of diamonds. He has an easy going temperment and anyone can ride him. He can have a little bit of an opinion but never nasty!
My mare is out of a KOD mare, by a TB. She is fantastic, a proper all rounder, lovely temperament and loves people. We have had our moments, but only through the fact that she had done nothing when I got her and it was a bit of a learning curve! I love her.
