When I bought Bob he was ridden in a KK bit - dunno what the posh name is for it, but it was a bronze-coloured mouth piece, loose ring snaffle with a peanut lozenge in the middle.

I am a cheapskate so I bought an imitation one in a different metal and slightly thinner...

Bob has decided he doesnt like the imitation and wants a real KK bit

Is there anywhere which sells them at reasonable prices please, or are they always about £80?

Ebay often have them cheaper (2nd hand).
Now the question is was his bit an ultra, as this has a twist. My horse likes ultra (with twist) but won't go in anything else nicely.
I now have two snaffles (£44 and £52) and "B" ring (£35) which all retail over double what I paid for them from ebay!

Ummmm - a twist where

I think his previous owner said he wore a KK aurigan

but I am borrowing one from my instructor atm which is the one I have tried to describe

I bought Thumper's off ebay 2nd hand for £25. Perfect condition, so was delighted with it.

Sold Amy's for £35 - so it didn't cost me a penny.

I have to say Acolyte, the boy is looking fantastic in your siggy pics

I got mine 2nd hand on ebay. Keep an eye out and you should get a bargain

Re the twist thing - there are basically 2 kinds of KK link - one is the Ultra which has been twisted round slightly to fit the shape of the mouth. I think most KKs are Ultras - you can tell if your borrowed one is because it will have a little arrow at the end of the mouthpiece on the bit ring if so. (the arrow is to make sure you have the mouthpiece the right way up).

If no arrow, then you have a KK training bit (not twisted).

Also, they come in several thicknesses, so make sure you get the right one. I measured mine straight across the widest part of the mouthpiece, next to the ring, to get the right one.

Aurigan is the metal that the bit is made of
Ultra relates to a 45degree (I think) twist along the mouthpiece
I have found some pics on ebay which illustrate this:
First is normal:

And this is Ultra:

The lozenge in the middle is on a different plane. Hope this helps a little

Oh adding that the width is very important too!
