Hi guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone else gets this type of pain when riding short and jumping??

I’ve got rubbish knee's anyway always have done, but when I riding there fine and don’t hurt at all as there in the short jumping length and could go for hours hunting/XC/SJ etc. but it’s when I straighten my leg after or get off I can’t put any pressure on it and like last night after a XC clinic couldn’t even straighten it, the pain is (I will try and describe) below the knee cap on the on the inside of the bone right at the top of your shin??

Hope that makes sense??

But when I get moving again and slowly start to put pressure on it, the pain subsides and its fine again??

Has anyone else ever had this or know what it is??

Doctor?

ETA: sorry very unhelpful aren't I... sounds like you could have arthritis, damaged cartilage, synovial infection.... list goes on but seriously, get some medic to have a look properly as it sounds quite advanced.

I used to get this too when riding the pointers short, ok when riding but get off and can't walk! Never seen a doctor about it but think I have a bit of arthritis there now.

I do but never had problems with my knees before sometimes rising trot for more than a few minutes at a time causes a similar pain but sounds nowhere near as bad as yours!!

Yep I get knee pain when I ride short, or for over 2 hours! I also sometimes get ankle pain, hip pain and back pain!!! Really I am falling to bits!
Doctor thinks it may be due to me being hypermobile and so have joints that are a bit too flexible. I wouldn;t worry about it though.

i get it when i go hunting on something strong and ride too short for the saddle. Am CRIPPLED when i get off and curse not thinking about it before! :D Ive no idea what it is but i just try to remember not to ride jockey length out hunting! :D:D:D

I don't know what it is but i get exactly the same. I also get a similar pain in my left ankle while i'm riding, although my right ankle is fine

any chance you have odd legs? I get pain in my right ankle but not in my left and feel like my right stirrup needs to drop down a hole when I have them even

I too used to get pain in my right knee ,but not my left ( wierdo). I don't know if it helps but i seemed to have self cured mine by getting a set of flexi stirrups ( not sprengers but just cheaper ones ) , i don't know if the shock absorbtion is the answer , but it's definitely helped me.

I get that really badly as I damaged the ligaments in my knee and my kneecaps have slipped. Privatley insured so had an MRI to confirm. Physio is what they gave me with an operation if I get really crippled (might not work or limit my riding excessively if I have it so not having it if can possibly help it)!

Well just got back from the docs, its not great news but not life threatening either!!

Ive damages the ligament and its kind of like tendonitis, its not going to necessarily get better but isnt going to cause long term damage or arthritis etc which is great news considering im only 25! He suggested that the thing to do would be have 6 MONTHS OFF!!!!!

But saw the reaction on my face and said "but if you "cant" do that then when you do ride avoid riding short"

So basically no jumping!!! :( :(

Hes referred me to the physio to see what they can do, and in the mean time to take it easy.

I just feel really down now no one at work gets it, im just starting to take Storm out competing and shes loving jumping, just feel really **** that now summer is here all we can do is dressage :(

^^ This

I tore the meniscus cartilage last October too and it won't ever heal properly so I have to ride long and it always hurts :( I'm only 27 too. Blinking hypermobility :(

Tendonitis is painful - had that in my wrists. I feel for you. Agree with the Dr though, best thing is rest or it won't heal. You can get supports from sports shops or Proline do a good range which I find help a bit.
Hope it feels better soon :)
