why is life so complicated!!!

so iv been sorting rehab livery found a place its perfect (i'll only be able to see her weekends as its so far away) but i need to buy rubber matting....their local feed merchant quotes were ridiculous so now i have to find something myself....hassle especially when im miles away! i just dont have 300quid to spend on some mats!

having transport issues as she has to be at the clinic on wed at 11 (everyone is at work) so im going to have to pay someone another ridiculous amount to get her there....

so all of this is going on....i decided to call my insurance company to find out whats happening with the pre authorisation form (had to send off so Willesley will go ahead with surgery without me having to pay myself~dont have 3k!) so yes petplan are claiming they never received this altho it was faxed last thursday....so i have called the clinic asked them to resend to a different fax number blablah....imagine if i hadnt called today?!

I was so happy this morning and really chuffed that id sorted everything and things were working out!

now im trying to get her used to standing near a lorry in the vain hope she will be sensible and load!

Dont panic!

Re mats, I got the EVA ones from Robinsons. They are a god send as they dry instantly. I know other people have bought various mats from ebay and I think it was only £20 a mat + delivery.

Try googling? Or the local farm shop?

Glad to hear that you have found somewhere nice for your mare's rehab. I am sure she will be much happier in a bigger stable and it will be less stressful for you. And it wont be for long anyway. When you can start riding her again you can move her back closer to you.

I didnt give you an update on my boy - the vets decided not to operate on him as they didnt think there was any chance it would improve. They have given him an injection and I have to work him consistently to see if he can cope. If he cant he will be retired.

Hope everything goes well with the op.

Hi CBAnglo, think im just going to go ahead and pay a fortune for mats I'll have to find the money

!

So why wouldn't he improve? Do you have the facilities to retire him?

Rage update - was lame for a couple of days last week but now seems fine again, so taking him out R&L and lunging/polework has recommenced. He worked so nicely on the lunge last night; a few really WOW strides when he decided to free his back for the first time.

A couple of pics...

To give a little idea of the amount of 'undulation'!

Finally starting to heal - the wider, white bits are the places where the infection was most prominent

And pre-surgery, April/May time

He's not looking as good as I would like, but all things considered he isn't too bad!

I would say at the moment, for the majority of the time he moves about the same on the lunge as he always did (when he wasn't having a period of lameness) and he always did move nicely despite everything, but now, when he really releases through his back it is just WOW!!! Last night I was literally jumping up and down and whooping on the end of the lunge, LOL!

How is Dyl?

He is looking smashing Bounty, I actually think that he is looking like a much stronger horse overall, he looks like he is just beginning to give a real impression of strength and power.

Stunning boy!!

He went really well last week ... still just walking and trotting a little bit but he started stretching down in the trot now and he feels a lot better ... I think (or maybe wishful thinking) although he has stopped napping and charging off.

Have bought the equami so will try that this weekend as well - thanks for the advice!

And you know Rage is my favourite so wont hear a word against him. He is looking really well.

REALLY pleased to hear things are improving - you still don't sound very upbeat though? Have a big (((hug))) from me and Mr Outrageous

Rage isn't thrilled with the EquiAmi, it's much easier working 'nekkid', but he certainly prefers it about 100% over the pessoa!

Have you asked for a second opinion? from Svend?

I love seeing pictures

the back looks funny doesnt it!

Did I say that my insurance called apologising'ish and said she would be covered thank god!

getting nervous!

So bounty what happened with the infection?

Because Rage is fairly compact, to take out the 3 processes Svend had to make one long (30cm) incision along his back, rather than smaller, individual ones.
It started oozing copiously 5 days after surgery and just didn't stop! He was changed over onto IntraMuscular Penicillin, but he set up a reaction to that after the 3rd day, and his neck ballooned, so that had to stop and he went back onto the powdered ABs which just weren't touching it. By the time stitches were due to come out it was a judgement call on the part of my vet as to whether the infection was a genuine infection, or whether it was his body trying to reject the stitches (there were 2 sections where the wound had broken out). The decision was made to take the stitches out anyway.... The next morning the infected areas had broken out to be 2" wide

Cue tears, nausea and phone calls to our vet practice and Willesley, along the lines of WTF do we do?!?!
Changed onto different ABs, and were putting Fuciderm cream 2/3 times a day when changing the dressings. It then started to grow proud, so he had Flamizine cream (steroid) to burn it back. This all took 7 weeks following surgery - Nightmare!!!!

Now the infection has gone, he is having laser and therapeutic ultrasound to aid tissue regeneration, help lengthen the ligaments and generally help him be a proper horse again!

Holy jesus! well lets pray Bridie doesn't react like that I don't know whether I could cope with it all! She is going to be on full livery so atleast that takes some pressure off me! what a horrible set back though....the poor thing....and you!

I havent had a chance to speak to Svend yet so i still dont know what action they will take with bridies op but il let them do whatever!

My vet came out to see lass today as it is 8 weeks since the op and we have got upto an hour a day walking.

I walked and trotted her up for him she was sound, he had a good poke and feel over her back and she didnt seem fussed at all.

From tommorow she is being turned out and we start the luging i cant wait very excited.

She will stuff her face little fatty!!!

Hopefully fingers crossed its onwards and upwards.
