"Get on the internet and see. All these backyard breeders have jumped on the bandwagon, and they're crossing any kind of dog with a poodle. They're selling them for more than a purebred is worth and they're not going into the backgrounds of the parents of the dogs. There are so many poodle crosses having fits, problems with their eyes, hips and elbows, a lot have epilepsy. There are a few ethical breeders, but very very few."
HURRAY!!! Someone said it.
Got a friend in Seattle who has a pixie-bob cat,so will ask him what it looks like;he did speak highly of it as I remember ,comparing it more to a dog(bull terrier that is!) than a cat.
Although I covet a Labradoodle as hubby is a walking allergy
Although I covet a Labradoodle as hubby is a walking allergy BYB and people who go about designing breeds really need their bumps felt!.
I am in a sticky situation at the moment with a designer offcut. Not a dog but a cat. He has been classified by the vet as an exotic hybrid or mutant.

He was part of a litter of kittens 'created' by quite literally a mad professor! Prof had worked at a Uni as head of biology for many years and was retired much to his disgust. In his wisdom he set about creating a new breed of cat. One of Toby Toast's parents is an F3 Bengal and his other I have been told (and he has yet to offer me anymore info) is a Bobcat. I'm not stupid enough to believe that its a wild Bobcat, so from what I have found on wibbly wobbly and the vets has said we think PixieBob.
TT's tail is meant to be that short. If you look at his ears you will see that they too are 'deformed' again there is some discussion as to what caused this.
a.born like that
b.deliberatly chopped to stop him entering show ring
c.accident-he lived with 29 other cats and 7 dogs
or d.cut so as he looked more exotic.
The vet and virbac are unsure if he can be vaccinated as some of these mutant cats react to vacs and have died on the table. This will also effect castration.
He is 5 1/2 months and is almost the same size as Egg and weighs the same.
His teeth are razor sharp, as are his claws.
He and one other litter mate survived out of 6, and he was born 'dead'. The chap warmed him up under a grill..maybe natures way of saying no??
So, would I buy a cat like Toby? No.
Will I buy a Labradoodle? No matter how much I want one the answer is no. I don't want to be part of the problem.
And with that I shall climb off my soapbox......and carry on playing fetch with TT-yep the cat thinks he is a dog!
I would be carful with that!
At a recent doodle meetup of more than 40 or so doodles less than 10 were actually non shedders.
I would go for a breed that is known for not shedding. Such as a lowly standard poodle.
I groom three black Standard Poodles and I adore them! They are big dozy teddies. Not a fan of the Minis though, mainly because I'm terrified of breaking them
I was told that no breed is hypo-allergenic, due to the fact that most people aren't allegic to the hair, but the dander, and every breed has dander in their coat. It's just that what the dander is made up of varies from breed to breed, hence people being less allergic to certain breeds.
