Lameness workup booked for ex racer, send positive vibes!

Update for anyone who is interested, we go back tomorrow for the rescope after his month of gastroguard.

I’m really nervous that they haven’t improved, he’s absolutely fine but considering his only symptoms were weight loss and a bit of stiffness it’s hard to know if he has improved or not. He’s put on a little weight but not lots…I know these things can take a while. He seems less stiff but he’s even weaker now as he had 2 weeks off before/after the scope and we’ve been going quite slowly with his schooling (2 big storms haven’t helped riding conditions!) so his flatwork has gone a bit backwards…

Will let you know what they say, hope he isn’t as knocked for six by the scope as he was last time 🤞

How did you get on yesterday?

Hi sorry been a long day we are just back from the vet hospital!

So they re-did the lameness investigation and he was much better in that he would canter this time on the lunge, the first time he didn’t (assume because of ulcers) and he kept changing his hind legs in canter..was obviously uncomfortable. Tender on his SIJ and dragging toe a little so looks like his SIJ is sore and probably affecting his gait etc so she’s going to give him a steroid injection in the new year to help with the rehab for his weakness.

Scope was great, ulcers completely gone! 🥳 gone from grade 2/3 to none! I’m delighted! Not sure if the SIJ was the source or not…I guess we will never know.

He also had his 2 wolf teeth out while he was there poor lad! They were in an awkward place and he’s been leaning a bit with the bit so just decided to whip them out.

So he’s feeling very sorry for himself and now has a week or two off for his mouth to recover then he’ll have his SIJ medicated and we can hopefully crack on! He has gained some weight and she thought his coat looked better too ☺️

Glad it's all sounding so positive and hopefully you can crack on in the new year :)

That sounds like a very positive update overall; my horse appears a lot more comfortable since she has had her SI injected and so far no more bucking!

He’s never really shown the discomfort bless him, but glad he’ll be more comfortable soon!
