My mare always has windgalls on both her hind legs and always has done, they dont usually change with work or turnout or rest - they are just there.
Until today when I've brought her in from the field to take her for her lesson and one of them is rather large, I've checked all her foot, heel, tendon etc and there are no small nicks or cuts, its def just fluid in that area, is isnt hot, perhaps a tiny bit warmer than in her other leg but nothing significant. She walked and trotted up fine so I took her to the arena and told my instructor who said we'd see how she goes.
She was not at all lame, but kept stumbling a bit on her other hind leg (its not uncommon for her to stumble as her back end is slightly weaker and we are working on building this up) but she did quite a few stumbles so we decided to leave it, this was only in trot.
What can anyone recommend for making the swelling reduce? She's happy for it to be pressed etc she's in no pain. But its a bit odd esp only on one leg, any advice greatly appreciated.
Oh she is a 17hh TB x ID x Clydesdale mare with a typical heavy horse action in her back end. All power at the front and is turned out at grass 24/7.
Thanks again sorry its long x
