If we ever get to cut hay this year, as its rained for at least 6 weeks without enough dry days to cut and bale, will it be any good ?
Never been so late as this year

My neighbour regularly cuts in August. They use it to feed their own 2 horses and 2 shetlands, so don't need loads. 2nd/3rd (in a good year) cut round here is often about this time. We were looking at it a couple of weeks ago and bemoaning the fact that there isn't as much 'thickness' as you would expect. Fingers crossed for some better weather in the coming week!

Yup FB just reminded me that OH was haymaking this time last year... and it was really good stuff, I'm still feeding it now. which takes the edge off the anxiety I guess, as he's still got some to do. Just needs to stop raining!!

It'll be fine - not much protein because the seeds will all have dropped out but good fibre and minerals. The people who rent my 8 acres haven't cut it yet, but that's either for cattle or to sell off the field. Someone said we were going to get a heatwave at the end of the month - but that was before the jet stream moved south

I am so pleased to hear that, we have 12 acres standing too, got all our own equipment, as we go fed up with being last with contractors, so have a round baler, etc, the weather is dreadful, I have water laying the fields after the last down pour.
