One of our kind Facebook friends wrote to Avon and Somerset Police, since they were confused over the ACC Rod Hansen from Avon and Somerset Police statement last week saying the following –

Wording ¬ police high visibility clothing typically has POLICE printed as a contrasting block of letters prominently displayed to the rear and/or front.
Colour police high visibility uniform is universally yellow.
Chequered Banding ¬ police high visibility clothing commonly uses blue/silver chequered banding,

This is the response from Avon & Somerset Police on the POLITE range ...

Thank you for your concern. You have nothing to worry about as long as the Hi-Vis vests do not have any signage or emblem to imply you are affiliated to the police.

Thank you for your enquiry

...
As you can see for yourself, The “guide” sent out by ACC Hansen is his own opinion and is not the opinion of the UK Police Force.

Well if you're in A&S area you're safe then. It's in writing. The wording on the hi viz is not POLICE it is POLITE so therefore you shouldn't be impersonating anyone.. I cannot honestly see anyone bothering to prosecute someone for quietly riding down the road. Standing in a high street directing traffic or trying to hold back crowds wearing said clothing then yes maybe you would be impersonating a police officer.

Quite...

ACC Hansen is obviously a bit of a knobhead. Does anyone seriously think a person will try to impersonate a police officer, complete with horse. Some people need something to do, never heard anything so stupid in my life. As I've said before POLICE and POLITE, are different words.
