Am now riding Spider have been for over a week and she has been great, now she is out ive had no explosions just getting on with, maybe the odd buck but thats about it.

Anyway she has always been quite lazy and having to be on a decent amount of mix when she is fit and competing, she has also always been a bit funny in the mouth but this is probably from the hidden wolf teeth (that have now been removed) thing is at the mo she is super super quiet, very lazy and just mooches about the field eating, never runs about or anything. She isnt ill she is eating well etc. She is on a sccop of hi-fi and a scoop of alfa-a twice a day at the mo, will start having some mix end of next week.

Just asking for some advice really, do horses sometimes gets depressed after box rest? Even when they are now out? Or do you think everything has just over whelmed her and she is lazy as she is now cantering etc and is tired?

Also do you think some blood salts would help?

Any thought/views/advice appreciated, just want to make sure she is happy!!

Hubbys eventer is a bit off at the moment...one day he is fine, the next he just isnt "with it". He went for a couple of training sessions at the Hunts, the first session he was boardering on manic, 2 weeks later he was just going through the motions.... very odd.... Its as if he has a bit of a cold....perhaps its because he is pushing his coat?

Im finding it hard to judge what to do as he comes swinging between hyper and downer....

My eventer was like this, laid back by nature but went super quiet. We did find out that he had gastic ulcers which were making him quiet. However we have searched for products and two products which instantly revived his blood count and gave energy was a tonic called Immunial (we have had to reduce this as he bounces round the field too much now) and Aloe Vera Juice is fantastic. We have always be loathed to feed up as such as this can cause its own problems. Also he did get considerably more lively once the hunt had met at home. Previously he wouldn't have raised an eyelid and he got super excited and hasn't tried since. Almost like he cannot believe that he is feeling better!!!!
Not sure if this help, can be so worrying when your horse just appears too quiet - would always get a blood test done!!

used to give my mare some propell plus for a boost as she did used to get very low and lethargic. Not sure if this will help maybe have a look at ingredients?. Im sure they do get depressed. My friends dog is atm and vet said can happen so why not horses.?

Im almost certain she isnt ill, and if continues over the nxt few weeks to behave like this I will get a blood test done when the vet is out to check her legs.

Spose this is normal for what she has been through lately and going from box rest to walking about 8hrs a day and cantering now I can only assume and hope she is just tired

Ours are all a bit like that at the moment, loopy one minute and dozy the next. I was panicking about OH's favourite hunter yesterday as he was very quiet, and today he was bucking and squealing. Maybe it's spring fever: they feel better as the sun comes out more, then wear themselves out after being idiotic for a few days?! (Whenever my two are quiet/lazy I always blame it on their Cleveland Bay blood.

Maybe Spider's just a bit slow getting back into the way of work after so much time off; Hector was lazy like that when he'd had 3 months off.
