I posted a thread on here last month and quite a few peeps recommended PE and said to go for the Titan range ect.

Dually bought the 40g Buster Titan, 1680D blah blah. It fits great, looks great and seems really quality. He has worn it for 7 days, first day of light rain today. Brought him at lunch time for a lesson, took rug off and low and behold a WET HORSE!!!

Nearly all the seams have leaked in no more than drizzle!!!!! And it was heavier than usual when I took it off.

£130 for a less than shower proof rug.

E-mailed PE and sent these pics;

Received a condescending reply and frankly if I could swear on here I would,

''when horses graze the rain can seep down the front and they may get wet shoulders'' errrr EXCUSE ME!! Did I send them pictures of a wet shoulder, no clearly the pics show the wet lining on the seams, either its a faulty rug or inadequate to be sold as a turnout. But no reference was made to this.

Very big of them to offer me a courier to come collect the rug, they will inspect it and let me know if there is a resolution!!!!

And what shall my fully clipped horse wear till then PE? Shall I knit him a new rug out of plastic bags? Probably be more waterproof!!

No apology, not even a reassurance that my hard earned money will be refunded unless they find a problem. Its leaking, thats a problem. I have a 2 year old no fill turnout from Gallop that has kept him bone dry in 48hrs of torrential rain.... I expect more!!!!

Awful product and terrible customer service. So so mad right now. Could cry :(

Write a letter to or email trading standards and CC Premier Equine. This is a trading standards issue if a product has been sold for a purpose that it is unable to fulfil.

Thanks GG, I am the type who wouldnt usually bother but £130 isnt easily spent on a rug!!! They are collecting it Wednesday, not answer as to what my horse is supposed to wear until then lol!

Horrid rugs, every time someone writes asking for rugs on here I always say the same

PE rugs are the worst rugs ever , heavy wet horrible messes

Get a shires storm chetta rug - awesome :-)

They are just far too expensive for me. Even if I could easily afford their prices, I wouldn't. I don't see why they have such high prices.

I bought a shires 300g full neck turnout for £45 from hope valley saddlery the other week. It was lucky dip on colour and fabric weight (minimum 600 dernier). That's more like it!

I was looking at the premiere equine rugs, but when a friend who does reproofing said they were rubbish and were resistant rather than proofed i opted for a different make! Bought him a 1200d Swish turnout and the water mostly beads on the surface, i just shake the rug and most pings off! Never had a wet patch on him either. Im a convert, will be getting more of them. Iv also had Maxima and they have been really good too.

I'm sorry that you have a leaky rug. It does seem to happen every nown and again. I was an unlucky customer too as my rug was less waterproof than a sheet of newspaper. I have mentioned it on the forum before. I wont ever buy one again. As mentioned above, the Shires Stormcheeta is a fab rug and I've never had leaking problems with Rambos which are only 1000d Nylon, so maybe the denier has no bearing on the waterproofness?

Am going to buck the trend........
I have exactly the same rug & its not leaked at all in the recent heavy rains we've had :)

Also have several other PE rugs, not one of those has leaked either over previous winters..........

However, as this appears to be a PE bashing thread, even from those who dont use them, I'll leave you to it.
Nite all :)

I had a leaky one too. They picked it up, tested it, agreed it was deficient and sent out a new one which was fine. I was pleased with that.

Did they refund you Fara? No maybe it doesn't, but it says waterproof in the rug info and it clearly isn't :(

Unfortunately I am financially wiped out by this purchase, but if I get my money back then stormcheeta may be the way. Really gutted though, the weight is ideal for him in cool weather as he is a hot horse so with a liner it is very versatile, too good to be true though. humpf.

I refused to have anything to do with that company 10 years ago! Brand new rug and the belly strap buckle things broke. They told me I should have stopped using it as soon as I noticed there was a problem. First time I noticed there was a problem was when I found it lying in the middle of the field.
They refused to refund or replace.

I wouldn't bash if it didn't leak :( never had a rug that fits him so well, genuinely gutted for this reason!

fingers crossed then!!!

I have a PE rug, in it's third winter on a thoroughbred that lives out and had absolutely no problems. I looked after 5 horses for a year that each had a PE wardrobe and never had a problem with any of their rugs. I am confident that they will deem it faulty and replace it, it happens un-fortunately.

I too have got PE rugs and they have been great. Love them.

I found their customer service great. Sounds like you have been unlucky.

I am sure they will replace it with another. Good luck

I had a shires 2000d hw from the robinsons sale, excellent rug, never leaked, rain ran off in droplets. Would definitely get another, just need to see if they fit my new mare well. Otherwise her new weatherbeeta original 1200d is great so far, anmd fits like a glove.

ETA - friend has a PE hw for her mare. Was rather heavy when wet! The shires never got heavy when wet, and they were both the same age.

TFF - you only have to read the rug threads on here to see that the majority of PE customers are very happy with their rugs and go on to order more.

BM - No, I didn't get a refund or an alternative rug.

My horse only has PE rugs as I think they are fab. His 450g tail flap ripped off last winter (don't know how) so sent email + pics to them. They offered me a new rug for £35 and I also got to keep the other one which I got repaired locally for £2. I was in contact with Diane and found her to be excellent, good luck.

I used to have several PE rugs. All fitted well and none leaked but I did find them a lot heavier and harder to dry out once wet. This, along with the increase in price means I can no longer justify them.

Rugs break (as they should if needed in the field if horse gets caught / treads on it).

So everyone should have an in use rug and a spare rug at all times.

So you should put your spare rug on, whilst PE collect the faulty rug. It is not sensible to have only one viable turnout rug for a clipped horse. Maybe a lightweight with a stable rug underneath, but you should have a back up rug, as a matter of course.

I have had only good experiences with PE and PE rugs. I have very good customer service when the odd issue has cropped up out of scores of rugs I have bought.

I suspect PE will send you a replacement rug out very quickly.

My rugs have stood up to my horses living out over the last few months, without a leak, so hopefully you got a bad one, and replacement will be fine.

Mine was great until Tatts ripped it to shreds while J was wearing it .
The heavyweight is so warm I can rarely use it it's not been out the chest once this winter .

I used to buy their rugs etc but over recent years their prices have spiraled out of control so I go elsewhere now. They introduced a clothing range & those prices are high as well. They seem to be taking steps to try & become an 'Equiport'.

When they first started the quality was good & the prices were also good but in my eyes they've priced themselves too expensive. :(

I have 4 PE rugs (1 LW TO, 1 MW Combo TO, 1 HW Combo TO and a MW Stable) along with boots and other products and I have not once had a problem with them.

My 17hh WB has got a big crested neck, big shoulders but a short back and croup (In 6'6'' rugs). I have tried many brands from Weatherbeeta, Shires, Masta, Rhinegold, Rambo/Amigo, Falpro etc etc and none of them fit him without rubbing his mane and shoulders, being like a mini skirt on him or not going half way up his neck. My PE rugs have never leaked, ripped, rubbed or broken; they fit him brilliantly so will always buy them!

I love my PE rugs! the customer service has always been great!
I ordered some magnetic hind boots for my mare when she was in rehab and they sent me the boot attachment only (no magnetic bit) phoned them and the next day I had a full set of magnetic boots and got to keep the others as spares!

for the people complaining that the heavyweight is too warm?! really?! if your horse doesn't need that much then don't put it on them simples! that's not PE fault. my mare loves her 450gram and is always nice and warm which is a change for her because she gets cold very easily.

Someone mentioned Swish rugs.....have to say I love them as well! great rugs an fit my mare beautifully!

I was not complaining the heavyweights are very warm I was simply stating a fact .
