Lifespan of turn out rugs

I send the rugs off each spring to be washed and mended where necessary. i love it when they come back clean, neatly folded and sweet smelling. liners, lightweights and fleeces are done at home in the washing machine whilst OH is at the footy.;)
have just had to retire the oldest stable rug due to mouse damage (uneconomic to repair) after 10 years. The most used is a rambo that has the liners, I have the 100g, 200g and 300g for all eventualities. I do like to keep a spare heavyweight for each horse for when its peeing down for days so I can dry them thoroughly. I have a very old oil filled radiator in the tack room under a rug rail that will sort out one sodden rug a night.

We've a 3 year old Rambo Duo that's used indoors and out, it's shrunk in the wash a bit so the front inner is wearing at the front - horse has grown - and it's now a bit snug! Wash the inners regularly, washed the outer first time this summer, have hand re-proofed with Nikwax, not really been cold enough to try it out yet, but outside looks good as new apart from a couple of scratches on side!
Does anyone know if I can use 6'3 inners with a 6'6 outer of the Duo as am thinking of buying the right size now? Am thinking I could extend the fastenings perhaps?
I tend to use liners a size smaller than the rug anyway as with the same size liner I found bits of it poked out at the back & got wet if it rained a lot.I use HW duo & supreme, the smaller liners fit perfectly,no extending of fastenings needed!
