I'm taking on a pony on something between a share and a loan. In the summer I bought him a Premier Equine sweet itch rug which has stood up fairly well given that he's very gifted at rubbing his neck with his back legs! In late summer I bought one of their light weight turn out rugs. It wasn't one of their cheaper versions, costing over a hundred pounds. A couple of weeks ago we had a short period of heavy rain and I saw that it had started to leak around the surcingles. I went up today and it's in the rug room and is very wet on the inside. Pony's in his mid weight which I got from another company.

Has anyone else experienced this with PE's rugs? Is it worth going back to them as I've had it for a few months? I'll have to buy another lightweight as he'll probably need to be in this as much as his heavier one over the winter. I've got a liner for the PE rug does anyone use these on rugs where they can't attach at the front or are they likely to slip?

Any advice would be appreciated!
 
Sounds like you've got a duff rug - I had a LW from PE that never was waterproof but I'd bought it in their sale at the end of summer and not used it till spring the following year so was stuck with it, this was in the days when they were a more reasonable price. I had it washed and reported thinking it'd somehow not been proofed but it still leaked.

I'd contact them and give them your order details, explain it's not fit for purpose as leaking. Hopefully they should replace it, I see no reason why not
 
I have some PE lightweight rugs from when they first started out, they have only just started to leak. As poster above says bought a 100g in a sale but didn't use it immediately, first shower of rain it leaks like a seive, not worth having it on, also weighs a tonne. I can't send mine back , but it might be worth you contacting them to see if you can return yours. I won't be buying a TO from them again, I've e heard too many stories like mine.
 
I have yet to find a lightweight that is fully waterproof. I tend to go for 100g instead which seems to make a difference.

Given that PE rugs aren't cheap, you would expect them to be at the very least waterproof. I have a m/w which leaks round the circingles. It's also heavy when wet which is a common complaint.

Personally I'd ask for my money back. Plenty of makes that cost half the price are just as waterproof. I'm a fan of Weatherbeeta rugs that are very waterproof.
 
I've got a few PE rugs, only 1 has leaked like a sieve & thats the one that was cleaned & re-proofed in summer 15 as it was incredibly filthy, but this time my saddler used a different company to do the washing & proofing :(
Love the 40g lw rug, never leaked at all even in the heavy rain on sat night last, that rugs over 3 yrs old now tho but still going strong :)
 
over the years on different horses i have always used weatherbeeta no fill rugs, they aren't expensive and i have never had 1 leak or found any of the 3 horses i've used them on being cold underneath. personally i don't like the rugs with liners so i also have a 100g weatherbeeta for when it is really cold which was approx £75 and have just bought a 50g rug from the big horse shop for £90 that has a detachable neck. my mare is wearing this one in the current heavy rain and it doesn't leak either. I don't think you can fault weatherbeetas really and they have a 3 year guarantee against leaking

Can't beat a rambo IMO - I have 2 rambo LWs which were both bought 2nd hand and are both absolutely watertight :)

Sorry OP, can't help you on the PE except to say I find rug liners stay put provided you fasten the clips at the back onto your fillet string d rings :)
 
It does sound like a dud. I have several PE rugs from no fill to 400g and none of them leak. The oldest ones must be about 6 or 7 years old by now. I've always found them really helpful so I'd give them a ring.
