Lion alert. Essex.

Many years ago, we used to hack past a pet lioness. She was chained up and sat on the flat roof of a garage extension. Sometimes she would sit in the window and watch us go past. Funnily enough the horse didn't bother but I was always rather nervous.

I think if I lived in Essex my horses would be in their stables tonight, with the doors firmly shut.I

It was in the days before you needed a licence to keep 'exotic' pets and tbh I don't think that she had a bad life, in the great scheme of things. Obviously she didn't have what we would like for lions - company of other lions and a large area to roam around at will. However she did have plenty of human company, in a variety of locations, and was obviously well fed.
I went to Yorkshire Wildlife Park recently and their obviously well-fed lions were just lying asleep contentedly, so not that much difference really.

If there are any remaining circuses that travel round with lions then I would have thought they'd notice one was missing. Glad I'm not in Essex though. I reckon its come as a stowaway. To steal dens & prey from British wildlife & receive free vet care. Next it will be bringing over its entire pride to live for free while the decent hardworking British predators provide for it. I can just see the daily mails headline now 'illegal aslam seeking immigrant lions taking over uk'.

Taking all our jobs and housing and joining terrorist organisations.... :D

Yes, its the local moggys that need to watch themselves. Before they know it those damn lions will be demanding bigger trees & antelope, & calling everyone 'lionist'. And I bet the lion has a false pet id number & registration card too.

Back in the seventies a lion escaped from a circus in my local town. He was prowling the streets for quite some time and managed to kill one or two of the local gypos!

Don't Panic.
TT says it's nothing to worry about.
He'll finish the job off Wench!
