Little Cob - I think he needs his feed changing again...

Little Cob has been on Instant Response for five days now... :o Not so good. He's turned from a lazy, but loveable lad, to a flipping idiot :( Running out at jumps and generally being a twit(!!!).

He's six and he's a cob and he's a lad and Spring is in the air, but I don't care, not having that sort of behaviour :(

So, it's off the Instant Response. He doesn't need feed per se as he is a tad overweight, it was only getting it to try and wake him up a bit, so now I need something just for the vits.

D1 will be redoubling her efforts on getting him fit. Lots of hill work under saddle, and working on the lunge.

It's so frustrating as he was really starting to listen to D1 and pay attention, but he's being a bit of a prat when going out to the field and back as well, and he's usually so chilled.

I just love a happy medium :cool:

Oh for flips sake!!! Just tried to submit this message and it says I can only have four images in the message (I have five!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Pah. It's great when even trying to get one's message across over the ether is flipping limited. *looks longingly at grumpy emoticon*
 
oh bless him. I would try tiger oats, you would only need a cup full or so and they always had the right affect on my WCx worth a try
 
The other thing you could try, particularly if you are concerned about vits and minerals, is something like Redcell. I've had my cob x mare on it for about 4 years - she competes off that and about half a stubbs scoop of cool mix each day and she looks & feels very well. :)

Cheap too - a £30 bottle lasts me about 3 months.
 
Ive been reccomended a product for Katie called Boost, ive heard its really good and doesnt fizz them up etc but increases energy and stamina its made by Nupafeed. I havent tried it yet but im going to give it a go, as Katie goes flat at shows after one class. Ive heard this gives good results and its all natural too.
 
I would say no hard feed just hay or haylage get some more weight off, work on the fitness, vary routine as much as possible, i.e school on hacks etc, and add either NAF Ener G or propell plus to a handful of lo-cal chaff.
My welsh cob was soooo fat when he arrived he could hardly walk around the block, last summer he got quite fit, he has lost fitness over the winter and gained a great fat belly, making him fat and lazy again!:eek: I have cut his rations and increased his work - unfortunatley it's part of a cob's nature, as I'm sure you will know!!
