Two hours!

Sorry, I very tired now, but the general gist is, before she did her thing, his hind leg action in trot was wide (think constipated cow); after the treatment, his trot was almost straight :D :D :D

She's coming back in four weeks.

So, fingers crossed!

I'll post more tomorrow when I'm more awake :)

MrsMozart, who was the Bowen therapist that you used? I have one coming to look at my horse tomorrow! Hope the result tomorrow will be the same as yours :)

Thankies folks :D

Her name is Lucy..., hm, can't remember her surname! An interesting lady.

She does some energy thingy as well. Can't remember what that bit was called. Sorry. Brain a bit thick. It was a grasp at straws tat the time to have her. My vet said it was unlikely to harm, so to give it a go if I wanted to.

We've had McTimmony and physio, but neither of them had this effect. I'm wary of leaping up and down and shouting happinesses from the rooftops just yet, but this pony was effectively written off and now, well, who knows what the future holds for him

The lady is going to look at Dizzy next time as well, see if she can help re. the head arguing that she does. We know that Dizz likes the rider to take control and be a true part of what is going on; she's not a horse one can get on and be a passenger - she likes a good (albeit gentle, even if lively) discussion :D:cool:

In for a penny, in for a pound. I still have a sore shoulder from the car accident last year. I will ask her if she can help, and if she can help re. the muscles in my back, as the physio exercises have done so much but now are no longer effective, which is very boring and ouchy and lumpy.

Bowen is great, so glad its helping your lad.

It turned my mum from unable to move, even with gaberpentin, paracetamol, nuerofen and morphine patches, to being completely pain free

A lady called Kristina Johnson (Herts) COMPLETELY fixed a deep problem I had with my shoulder for over two years using Bowen. It was the first time I had experienced it, I had been to my GP (take ibuprofen...) and my physio (try these exercises) for months and neither helped. Bowen targetted the problem, was not painful in anyway, and I have now been pain free since the start of July.

She is qualified for humans and is currently halfway through her horse qualification. I highly recommend her and am happy to pass on contact details if anyone wants them.

My lad had his regular Bowen session this morning. I cant recommend it highly enough. Its also saved me from a life of crippling sciatica.

If you find a good Bowen therapist you are laughing, mine is fabulous and worth every penny.

Hummm, I think it may be worth me getting one out to have a look at Charlie.

How would I know if they were a 'good' Bowen Therapist? What sort of price can I expect to pay per session?

MrsM - I really hope LC continues to improve :)

Glad you've had a good outcome so far from this.

Does anyone know if Bowen or ET will help a horse with severe allergies? Human Bowen claims to, but can't see anything with horses.

Sounds interesting, glad you got good results for LC long may it continue!

It sounds like Bowen is very similar to shiatsu, wouldn't be supprised if the energy therapy she also does is that or reiki.

MrsM, any chance you can PM her her details when you get a chance?

Fire_Fly, I'm unsure about Bowen, but then again if it claims that for humans I'm sure it'll have the same effects on horses, it may be just that because thats harder to quantify they may not be able to claim that, and the law is very strict on who diagnoses and treats animals.

I would reccomend finding a homeopathic vet, because homeopathy can and does help sort out allergies for good (in people, again I assume same for horses)

Et is adapted from Bowen. Bowen came first. Et is a mishmash of things.

I can recommend both only as far as the ability of the practitioner. Both Bowen and ET were discovered by amazing people who had a 'gift' (Jock from ET still has it as he's still alive;) ).

How those gifts translate to a student is really up to the student.

Sounds like MrsM has a good one.

Either way neither therapy is capable of doing any harm, so it's worth a go.

Yes, it is similar to Shiatsu. I think Bowen came from a chiropractic background originally.

It's about stimulating certain points to awaken the body into resetting and healing itself.

Cntl. Alt. Delete. :)

i'm a bowen therapist.... :D

bowen helps with allergies in the sense it gets the whole body/circulation/lymph etc all 'moving'. we don't treat specific 'conditions' but the body as a whole, so yes, in answer to your question it can deal with allergies in horses in the same way it does with humans.

with humans we can treat asthma with amazing results, because it works on the diaphragm, and relaxes all the breathing muscles.... so, a horse that suffered with breathing difficulties as a result of allergies could also, in theory, be helped by bowen.

ET (for the person that asked) is based on Bowen. however, to be qualified to treat horses with bowen you have to have be qualified to treat humans first. and the training is VERY long and pretty hardcore. i'm not sure what the training is for ET - but i do know it's had some good results too.

bowen (for the other person that asked) is based on a few different therapies, including acupressure, chinese medicine etc. it's been around for a very long time (tom bowen, it's founder, actually started on horses and moved to humans). it works on the muscles and fascia (the thin membrane stuff that covers muscles - that annoying stuff you fiind on a raw chicken breast) and in turn affects the whole body (ligaments, tendons, organs, skin etc...)

i (obviously) really rate bowen. anyone who knows me in RL will know my life has been plagued since childhood with HORRIFIC migraines, and after many years of trying many different therapies and drugs, bowen seems to be the only one that has fixed me.

i'll happily answer any questions on bowen - i'll be on here this evening. i'm off to do a second treatment now on a darling little show pony, who when i first went to meet him, was so tense you couldn't touch him without being kicked. literally. his tail was carried a good few inches to the left, and his near hind used to twist dramatically every time he lifted in in trot.... after one treatment his tail was straight, and his hind action was normal. today i'm hoping his kicking has stopped too... my reactions aren't what they used to be.... :D

bowen is life changing for some people... so anyone that has a good local therapist, i really recommend you give them a ring, and try them out once. for yourselves as well as your horses. it's a very safe and gentle therapy... and well worth a trial! but.. i would say that ;)

mrs m... so glad little cob enjoyed it... did you find the 2 minute breaks a bit odd? some people can't work them out! :D

Any idea on what to expect cost wise? We're in the North West if that helps.

Is there a website with trusted practitioners?

The horse does have really bad allergies and has shown positively allergic to the hospital tests they did on her, she gets really itchy all the time despite the treatments from the vets, which is more than likely the reason she can be a bit grumpy. :D

Sorry, tired again (D's Birthday - long, but fun, day :D).

Trying to remember the questions/comments:

I'm new to this, so have no idea. Only tried the Bowen because a very-hard-to-please friend recommended it/her so highly.

The session was £30, plus travel. All in all far less than I have paid for chiro and for McTimmony. She insisted on staying and taking as long as she needed to take, which in this case was two hours.

I have to admit to, other than being interested in her ability to wake him up or put him to sleep with a touch, being bored silly by the whole thing and wandering abut the yard doing stuff. D1 stayed with LC.

Thank you for the kind words. I have everything crossed that the lad will heal and be okay. He's with us for life, so no fears there, but I'd very much like him to have a good life :D

I'm going to ask her to 'do' me. My right shoulder ouch is now going down into by arm. My back muscles are being a pain, literally, now both where the break was and lower down where the BP dug in (but at least that pain made me get it checked out, and the BP stopped the break becoming worse!). My Disco is back in the garage and the Merc makes my back hurt - it would be this week I have to be on client's site every day :(.

Glad your Mum is feeling so much better hun.
