Having a bit of a rough time with my horse at the moment and a few comments today didn't make me feel much better.

As most of you know my horse looks alot smaller than she is. She has been measured at 15.2hh but alot of the time she looks 13.2hh. Today at my lesson 4 people commented *not nastily* that I need something bigger now.

What do you think?

Me next to her on the ground *seeee, she really is 15.2!*

She is lovely and the stars are fantastic!!!

I have a 17.2hh warmblood and am 5'2" - I look ridiculous perched up there! it cuts both ways! she can certainly carry you but you may decide that you want to up-size in the spring perhaps - if you are into showing, a smaller/shorter person may show her shoulder off better etc but if you are into jumping, why worry? you are not underhorsed at all....

Difficult to tell your age (we all look a bit the same under a riding hat!) - are you likely to grow anymore??!!!

some people seem to think they need to have big horses, you look absolutely fine on her, tbh if you went much bigger you'd probable look over horsed, if you're comfortable ignore aveybody else. I thought i needed a 16.2 min but my lad only made 16h and is perfectle big enough for my, i'd look daft if he was much bigger

Absolutely NO PROBLEM if you like her and everything's going well, she certainly has the build and bone to carry you and anything 15.2 with that build can carry virtually anybody. She looks like a lovely Welshy pony type, which carries a LOT more than your average lightweight.

I found out once that a horse can carry at least a quarter of its body weight if it's well and healthy.

I think the problem is that you look like you sit a bit scrunched up on her, as if you are trying to make youself look smaller - it might just be the photos. If you sat up straight you would look a lot better. And No, I don't think you are too big for her.

Are you happy with your horse? Do you feel ok on her?

If your answer is yes to those questions then there is no need to think about changing her for something larger. She carries you ok, she does what you want & you get on with her. Sometimes, however well meant, people should make sure their brain is in gear before they operate their mouths. Those 4 people have put doubts in your mind when there wasn't any before. You look fine on her, there is no reason for you to change her at all...OK

No, like everyone else, I think you look fine and you are obviously happy and comfortable riding her!!! Don't worry!

I too have a 15.2 that is deceptive in his height - he has a pony head and short back and high withers - I'm just under 5'7 and I am (in my opinion) too long in the leg to ride him effectively (well what I deem effective

). I often feel like I could wrap my legs round his belly so they meet underneath

But like I said - it's how YOU feel riding YOUR horse and you certainly wouldn't have people whispering look at that girl who's way too big for her "pony"

if you walked past.

I ride my 15hh tbx, and am 5ft 9. I have never felt the need for a bigger horse, and she will happily pop 1.20m jumping and probably more with me very enthusiastically(!), so i can't be that much of a hinderance too her. Having a small horse makes life so much easier and i wouldn't swap her for the world. Not the best pic but you get the idea- a lot of coats on am not really that top heavy!

I'm also 5'4" and look about the same build as you.

I did'nt feel too big on my 15.2hh but felt I would be more comfortable on a 16hh - When it came to look for a new horse I ended up with a 16.2hh! - Which everyone says I look fine on!

Your mare is holding her head in quite close to her chest on your photo's making her look very short in the neck which is maybe where your comments are coming from?

I dont think you've got a problem though - if your happy with your horse & competing successfully then keep her

Who cares. She's lovely and if you enjoy riding her then it is no-one else's business.

I'm 5'8" and the vast majority of my horses are smaller than 15.2hh, in fact the ones I ride the most are only 14.3hh.

if you no your not to big for her, the first question i would ask is why!! do you no someone that wants my horse

over the years iv'e often found when people start suggesting you sell your horse they often no someone who wants to buy it
