Myself and some friends are looking to move yards and are looking around Herts.
Possible areas are Borehamwood, Potters Bar, Crews Hill

What makes it especially tough is trying to reconcile everyone’s priorities and areas. Of course a lot of yards may not have space for 4 immediately but we would be happy to go on a waiting list and move one at a time as space came up.

Requirements

Daily turnout all year round in smallish groups. This may only be 2 or 3 hours in winter but as long as they get out to stretch their legs. Obviously there will be the odd extreme day when fields are not usable.
Good size, well maintained, all weather school - must be floodlit.
Open every day till evening so you can ride after work.
Some jumping equipment
Either on site instructors or OK to bring your own
Needs to offer part and assisted DIY livery.
Some hacking would be nice
Secure areas to keep tack, rugs and other assorted equipment.
May have to access by public transport occasionally but it’s amazing where you can get to with a train, a local bus and a 15 minute walk so don’t let that put you off suggesting places.

We looked at Mote End and they fitted the bill but they are quite pricey. What pushed it up especially was the £4 per day sharer fee.
If you went on holiday and your sharer rode every day you would be paying close to £900 per month

Any suggestions welcomed

Thanks

Sorry don't know of anywhere off hand but a £4 a day to have my sharer use my hores is taking the P*ss. I would not ever use a yard that asked for this. I assume you mean having a person who shares your horse fee and not something else?

Cowley Hill - Borehamwood
Earls Farm (lovely bloke and his daughter have recently taken over)
Crossoaks (next door to Earls Farm)

I used to be at Mote End (for over 10 years, and the current management are a bunch of money grabbing so and sos!)

A sharer fee is what your sharer pays the lovely Mike at Mote End every time he/she rides your horse!

God - never heard about the sharer fee! how ridiculous!

What about EHEC www.ehec.co.uk which is in Broxbourne?

There are several in Cuffley - dont know if you have tried there?

Used to be one at Epping Green on the way from Little Berkhamsted to Newgate Street, used to be 2 in Newgate Street as well might be a little far out for you. Will ask my Dad if he knows any as he still lives in Little Berhamsted and let you know.

Yes £4 every time someone rides your horse. They said it was for "insurance" purposes but my BHS and Horse policies cover anyone riding or handling my horse with my permission.

Round Cuffley would be good.

mote end seems to have an extra charge for everything - totally ridiculose.
there are lots of livery yards in that area.

when i looked i drove about and dropped in on a few to see what they were like. they will have all changed lots since i was looking. there are lots in the Elstree, radlett, watford, Shenley, totteridge, potters bar area (the ones i can remember: south meadburn, caldecott, bury farm, harts farm, wilds farm, black bird farm, coursers farm, patchetts, hill farm).

I am at Mote End at the moment and leaving cause of the money grabbing lot - £4 sharer fee, £5 to be taught by any instructor (they call it an outside instructor fee but as there are no onsite instructors you cannot avoid paying it every time you have a lesson) plus the best bit, £4 to turn a horse out OR bring it in if it wears a rug..... as my bill once horse shod and I had a couple of lessons was coming up to £1000 I decided to move. I am going to Mccelland Farm in Bricket Wood and it is lovely there, amazing hacking. Mote End ticks a lot of the boxes but it is ridiculously overpriced and you do not get the service you want (ie when my horse could no longer go out in the herd because of injury they basically said he can't go out as there was not enough grass which was a bit shocking when you see the amount of land there!)

Rant over!

There is Frith Manor Livery Yard in Lullington Garth Finchley North London, Burtonhole Farm, Burtonhole Lane, Mill Hill North London, Edgwarebury Farm, Edgwarebury Lane Edgware Middlesex. Also Barnet Riding School now a livery yard in Galley Lane Arkley, High Barnet Herts.

there are loads in that sort of area, i used to be at wood green farm in cuffley, it was nice there. there is slopers pond farm in potters bar, its a nice yard + the people that run it r lovely! ive heard strangeways is very good. both the yards mentioned in newgatestreet village r gone now, but epping green stud is still there. i used to live in that area + have visited most of those yards (due to work) so PM me if you need to know ne more.

another vote for Mccelland Farm in Bricket Wood

the staff there are fab and standards really high and i got told its 410 for 5 day livery and they didnt seem tight on anything

Kombikids Do you have details for Mclennand farm - tried googling and couldn't find it.

@Peternatt I know the yards round Mill Hill very well being in that area at the moment.
Burtonhole is really a DIY yard and has no facilities though the fields and stables are nice.
Frith only offers alt day turnout in winter and in a huge band of horses.

To everyone who ranted about Mote End - i find it interesting that when we called up there were 3 boxes free and looks like someelse is going from this board.
Everywhere else in the area despite not having anywhere near as good facilities and land has waiting lists.
Makes you wonder if they can sustain those prices in the current financial climate.
