I am getting good at posting on here but everyones views have helped me in the past so here goes....

My ID is living out now and i have stopped his hard feed as there is sufficient grass. I am only worried that he will lose condition as when i bought him just under a year ago he was in poor condition.

I am doing a 15 mile ride soon and wonder if he will need the extra food to get him round.

What are your opinions please????

I spoke to spillers when i bought him and he was on a scoop of spillers conditioning fibre and ahalf scoop of spillers conditioning cubes.
His topline did come up nice with the correct work as well of course!!

mine are living out at the mo and having no hard feed. I do feed them all before they go back into field after being ridden. If they have a DO dont get fed

Depends on the horse, i think?? My mare has to be fed, but it's for energy as she's old. How old is your horse?? If it is hard to keep condition on him, then I think I'd feed him, even just a small feed. As bad as over weight horses are, it's terrible when think look skinny.

if your grass is as mad as ours then I reckon you could do without hard feed! My mare was v poor when I got her a year ago, and she is out now and no hard feed. She does have a small scoop of non molassed chaff with her supplements of an evening, but that is just to have something to mix her vits and minerals in with rather than for the calories or energy (she has more than enough on grass!). Maybe you could just try reducing it gently over time, and then just use a balancer so you wouldn't miss out on vits and mins (particularly magnesium as most 'growth spurt' grass is low in this)?
