Lloyds Bank advert!

I was under the impressions they traditionally used a black Trakehner stallion... Kind of sad they didn't bother this time. Nice ad though...

For those whinging, it's not like the people who supplied the horses do anything 'for horses' either. Not in the sense of giving money to a rescue or whatever anyway. So do they earn the right to do stuff with horses purely by virtue of being "horsey"? Horses don't "belong" to the horsey subset of people. Anyone can decide to "use" them in an ad and it's really quite ridiculous to imply they need to somehow have a "real" connection with horses to earn a right to do so. I am glad whenever I see something that engages non-horsey people with horses - that is a service to horses all by itself.
I disagree that the people supplying the horses don't do anything for horses - the horses in the ads are obviously well cared for and others have identified the displays and things they do for the general public. I think also the promotion of horses for para riders is great, as they don't get nearly enough credit.
Of course anyone can choose to use anything they like in an ad, and using animals is a well-known selling point whether or not it relates to the product. I don't see how this means that people can't prefer it if the company does something else for their chosen ad topic though, whether they use horses-children-dolphins-beaches or anything else though. I really don't think that makes anyone a whinger just because they think this would be a nice idea. But each to their own opinion of course :)

Exactly how I feel Goldenstar. Ive just watched it again and tbh I almost feel "how dare they". In my personal experience they are nowhere near as "by your side" when the going gets tough as a horse can be, they do not compare well in the loyalty stakes! I know its just an advert, the fact that we are talking about it, I suppose, makes it a good one but I just feel the comparison is all wrong. Doesnt stop it being a beautiful little interlude on the telly though!

Surely it's pure symbolism?

The bank has been around to the service of it's customers for 250 years.

The horse has been around for the service of mankind for 250 years and beyond.

Simple really! :)

This.
They're using something admirable and dependable to advertise something which is not necessarily either.
Beautifully done though

I agree with this Tbh, found some of the replies a bit odd..

Love the advert though, I'm with Lloyds bank myself.

Exactly this and the fact that the black horse is their most well known brand icon, hence why they've used it.

Lloyds has been our family bank since the 1920s and I've never had a problem with them. Love the advert too.

I thought it was a lovely advert. I have no views on or personal experience with Lloyds, but highlighting the horse's historical role and value in society is very important IMO and this was a poignant way of doing just that regardless of what it is advertising.

I didn't think the symbolism of the black horse representing the bank logo was hard to grasp, I thought it was nicely done and I applaud the double layers giving the horse some credit for what he has done for humans throughout the years. So many people never reflect on it.

I love it. Where I kept my old horse years ago there were woods like that and I admit it brought a tear to my eye knowing that we had cantered like that through woods like that, and sad that we never will again.

Best LLoyds advert so far.

Very nice advert, but my fave was the 'intro' for the snooker championships a few years ago with the Andalucian/Lusitano? Smashing!

Love the ad I cried I have a Friesian x he is the milk float horse oh thinks he looks like the one in the woods at the end head shot anyway ..not a banker with lloyds not sure any bank lives up to my horse.

It's a beautiful and emotive piece of film work - I wonder if it will attract new customers for the bank? (banks...pah!)
I've always been of the opinion that any company, large or small, that uses any kind of animal for promoting itself should be bound by law to make some kind of contribution to a charity or society that works to protect that particular animal.
If Esso had coughed up some funding over the decades, perhaps the Tigers would be better off now, the company that produces Andrex toilet roll could make a substantial contribution towards dog charities......it wouldn't surprise me if Meerkats were in some kind of trouble somewhere - perhaps that insurance company would like to make a donation somewhere.
I think that perhaps Lloyds could contribute to a horse charity.....you get my drift. But yes, it's a small but beautifully formed little piece of film, full of emotion.

Lovely advert :) Cancara was one of my dream horses as a teenager because of the lloyds ads :)

Does anyone know if the new ad features multiple horses or have they got a new figure horse like Cancara?

Isn't it lovely. The person cantering through the woods .... it moves me every time I see it! Meant to add, I used to have a video - yes, the old VHS - of the making of the Lloyds bank advert, the one with the horse on the beach. They actually used two horses, and one had to have his white socks painted! Might have to dig that video out!

Think I read somewhere recently that Andrex is working with UNICEF on a running water/real toilets sort of scheme.

Whilst it sounds simple in principle, remember that a lot of these brand names, like Andrex, are owned by Fortune 500 companies, like Kimberley-Clark.

I love it. Lovely sound track and the way it tells the story of such a long partnership of how the horse has served us so loyally over those years.

Hope it touches non horsey people and make them realise just how big a part horses played in our history and what they can mean to people.
