Hi there H&H Readers!

Just seeking some suggestions and opinions for Lo-Cal Balancers for a 14.1hh Welsh Cob. Had a busy season this year with BE, but we've been lucky enough to qualify for Badminton next year for the Grassroot Championships:D !

Obviously, he is a good do-er, competed most of this year just on Mollichaff Original and Pegasus Cubes, but obviously want him in tip-top condition for next May, so was looking up at Lo-Cal balancers such as:
TopSpec Lite
Baileys Lo-Cal
Spillers Lite
And Id only just realised that Dodson and Horrell have an 'Ultimate Balancer' designed for good do-ers but they appear to have a lot more Vitamins in than the others from what Ive gathered, a little more expensive than the Baileys, but will last him 50+ days.

Hoping to feed him one of the above alongside Alfa- A unmollassed. Our only issue is keeping the energy up in him mid-season, hence why choosing a balancer now! (So if anyone has any tips for the energy without putting on too much weight and keeping the calories off which is one of the hardest things to do as regards horses feeding.. typical!) Tempted to try NAF's "Ener-G" shot, the opposite to their Magic Instant calmer, so would be handy if anyone has used that too!

Thanks!:)

I have used most of the lo-cal balancers you can buy in the stores, and have settled on Top Spec Lite (£24) lasts 3 months , and he also gets TS Calm cubes (£12) lasts one month. He has more energy, but has stayed the same weight, and looks really good.

How much of the balancer are you feeding!?

I feed TopSpec lite, and a bag costs £26 round here, lasts about 6 weeks, maybe a little more if the cup isn't filled to the top. That's for a 16.1 WB, fed twice a day, with the recommended amount. If you don't feed the recommended allowance, they don't get the full benefits from the balancer.

Used to feed TopSpec leisure time, but local supplier has to order it in now, which takes a while! I didn't notice any difference between the leisure time and lite.

On the bags, I think TopSpec and Baileys are the most similar, IIRC.

RE; NAF EnerG, it depends on the horse to how it impacts them! If they are lazy, I would, but if they can be quite hot headed, I would use with a lot of caution. A friend used it, and the horse went into orbit!

Shy is 14.2, and he gets a full TS scoop at night, and the CC cubes, again one full scoop, twice a day.

I met the TS rep in a store, and she agreed this was the right amount, as we are just happy daily hackers. :)

I tried the Baileys, but doesn't it have molasses in it ? Not sure.

I feed the D&H Ultimate balancer, its about £33 a bag and my two ISH have three cup fulls a day. In fact I have even knocked off giving them anything else (they were on hifi lite too) as the feeds are so small. People have commented on here that it is not as low cal as other lite balancers. My mare is still bouncing with energy on it (too much really), my gelding is always calm.

Thanks guys!

Its dead interesting as I put a post on Facebook and 90% of people said Top Spec, and I found someone else who posted something similar (but this time for condition, which I suppose meets some factors to a Balancer) and again nearly everyone said Top Spec!

Ive been convinced to try a powder balancer, but I dont know if Id rather just give the feed- Never realised how cheap Top Spec was too!
