After a year of refusing point blank to load and at times galloping off around the garden my horse loaded perfectly last weekend. All down to a lovely man called Jim who had originally come out to see my friend's horse. Jim is Kelly Mark's trained (I have always been a little bit sceptical of Natural Horsemanship). I asked him if he would mind trying to load Merlin while he was there. Didn't have high hopes as I know Merlin can be over half a tonne of awkwardness but after about an hour of great patience from Jim, Merlin gave in and walked up and down the ramp. My daughter wanted to take Merlin to a prelim dressage last weekend. Wasn't sure he would load but on first attempt walked straight up the ramp and started munching his hay. He also got 69 in his first ever prelim test which I was really pleased with. Here's a picture.

I think he's beautiful too. I feel very lucky that he's still here. He fell into the swimming pool last winter when we had all that snow!

What a stunning boy! I remember your post about the swimming pool! Nice to see he's looking so well and obviously no worse for wear.

That's great.

We have just had the same experience with someone similar.

My OH's 17 year old mare has never reliably loaded and if we could get her to load to take her somewhere, getting her back in the trailer to come home was often time consuming, to say the least.

After four sessions with a professional behaviourist she is loading well. She tried it on a little this weekend, but by following what she had been taught, my OH was able to load her easily.

If in doubt, get help from a professional.

I use one of those rope halters that the natural horemanship put on them. And every horse has gone in with it. My 2 year old never pulls is like a lamp at the end of it what ever we do. I also don't belive in it all, but the halter is bloody good
