Grey Mare was kicked a few weeks ago (front of thigh).

Treated with Danilon and antibs.

Started with cellulitis so maintained treatment (vet visits).

Was loose in yard, with one stabled for company. GM stressed and bent the new five metal gate. Checked with vet who said try her out. Did so and she was calm and good.

Yesterday morning D saw her cantering on three legs. Vet was out afternoon to held Titch. Had a look at GM. Long exterior tendon very inflamed in front of hock. Audible 'click' on flexion. No apparent pain in that area, though tender higher up.

She'll go to Oakham early next week for X-rays and scans.

Looking for info, prognosis (hard I know when we don't know exactly what we're dealing with), and anything we can be doing now to help her.

She's back out as when stabled she kicks the door, with the Sidebone hoof that's not meant to be having any concussion...

We did consider, but no pain?

I've known a horse walk up and onto a lorry with what turned out to be and almost through spiral fracture (forelimb). He didn't exhibit his usual signs of pain at that time though.

There's no swelling in the hock area back from the swelling at the front, if that makes sense.

I've no experience that can give advice in any way, just wanted to bump this for you and hope you get some help.

Fingers crossed for GM xxx

Sounds like if its the front of the leg it's the extensor tendon?

If so, I had a horse completely sever both extensor tendons on one hind leg, beyond repair. Apparently, they are the only tendons in the body a horse can do without, as they learn to compensate by flicking the leg forwards.
My horse had been eventing at Internediate level and although he wouldn't have gone back to that, the vets said that there was no reason he wouldn't have been able to still do lower level stuff, and that was with the tendons completely severed, never to reattach or heal.

Sadly, he had to be PTS a few months later due to complications with the wound. However, before he was PTS he had learned to walk normally on the leg.

Hope this helps.

No personal experience - only for deep flexor many years ago so was interested when I attended a vet talk to hear about introduction of cells to rebuild the tendons. But expensive business and you would need to have a compliant insurance company. I remember that any cell seeding needs to be done sooner rather than later for best results. Depends on real value of the horse as opposed to the 'loved' value I suppose. But race horses have cell therapy often so its used and works well.
You reallly don't deserve any other problems do you?!

Very relieved to read that MrsM after everything you've been through of late! Here's to GM healing well and swiftly.
