Look at my new cob!

i think she looks ok.shes not the 'usual type' to suit having her mane hogged but she looks nice.
if the depths of cruelty is hogging a horses mane, they have got nothing to worry about!lol.

I can't believe that I have come back on now and this debate is still going on
tongue.gif

Well anyway how did you do at your show??

Fatarse i think your horse is lovely and i like the hogged mane.

Dont quite understand why on earth people need to nit pick- saying i wouldnt call that a cob?

And the comment about being cruel lmao- get a grip
grin.gif

It is impossible to tell whether the horse is a show cob or not from that pic, so anyone that said the horse is not good enough to show should have some damn good horses if they are able to tell from one funny angled pic whether a horse is a good show horse or not!

And anyway, the OP (sorry, can't call you fatarse!) said nothing at all about the horse being a show cob in the first place!

Everyone is, naturally, entitled to their own opinions. But perhaps read the post before saying whether a horse would be at the end of the line in a show class! I have been really impressed with the ability of the OP not to justify/argue/rant/weep about some of the comments that have been made. I don't think I would have been anywhere near as rational as her!

Hope the show went well - and I am sure that the comments made were not meant nastily, but just initial shock! (apart from the weirdo who thinks that a 4" mane will protect her horse from flies ...)

Fatarse - thank goodness you are a more mature attitude than many! I wouldn't have blamed you if you had been wound up by some of the remarks and been as b*tchy back to them but well done for not stooping to that level!
Your horse looks lovely btw! Far better to hog than pull imo!

I agree FMM. I said earlier that I thought fatarse had been remarkably good-natured about all the unkind comments - she really has given us a textbook example of how to deal with such unpleasantness in a dignified way - and with a sense of humour!

I'd love to see more photos of her very nice horse!

I know I shouldn't, but I couldn't help but laugh at that!

I like it!! I think that it suits him. I bet he looks very smart tacked up with his bridle on. But at the end of the day it is your horse and your choice etc dont know why some people have found the need to be so mean!! talk about uncalled for! I hogged my TB when her NZ took off about 6inches of mane along her neck and it looked terrible, so off it all came she looked like a very smart polo pony!!
grin.gif
I also hogged my cob here she is

Cripes!
blush.gif
I was just jealous as all mine have really crap manes and I'd have swapped with fatarse2. I had a pony with a pathetic mane and kept him hogged, but he was of cob type anyway. And then I went to bed so missed all this
tongue.gif

She suits it either way FWIW IMO BMW XYZ
grin.gif

Lol! I dont think everyone who posts wants "your horse is gorgeous" responses, but to go off on a tangent about how it wouldnt do well in showing, and quoting and openly disputing the OP responses was a bit unnecessary IMHO!! And anyway, in RC shows, where do working cobs fit in then?!! Oh, funnily enough in the WH class....my old cob won RC WH and SHOCK HORROR was hogged, and looked like a little SJing pony when fully clipped out
grin.gif
The judge loved him. Some people speak out of their arses!!
tongue.gif

FA, I like her, and think she looks great regardless!!
grin.gif

ETS, that was QR, wasnt getting at you brighteyes!!
tongue.gif

I love hogged horses! I'm tempted to do it to my itchy Fell-I struggle sometimes to keep her mane in "proper" condition. I can't quite bring myself to do it though.

i love hogged manes and have been tempted to whip the clippers out and do the sec c but she has mostly hogged herself via sweetitch!!
my little coblet won loads last year at RC level both in cob classes and as a hunter pony, the hog did not affect her placing at all, (apart fron a best turned out class!!) in fact it is hard to do a bloody good, even hog, there is a real art to it....
to those who think it is cruel - what a load of twaddle........my mare rearly gets affected by flies, and anyhows there are such things as rugs and repellents, each to their own i say, my personal hate is straggly unkept manes (i don't mean well conditioned looked after traditionals or fells etc) but those you see covered in burrs with the horse sweating under them on a hot day.

FFS I only said I BELIEVED it was more correct for workers to be shown plaited. There was no dispute, just a discussion, the only dispute is from people jumping on the bandwagon and taking comments out of context. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, its not compulsory to agree!!!!

"Whatever................How does she do in cob classes by the way??? I would have thought she was more of a Hunter type than Cob.

My mistake. I thought you said you grew out of showing @ 16.

like I said its a one off to assist a nervous competitor on a trust safe steed, perhaps something many other people would do well to try when you see some of the scared stiff kids at shows around and about.

Not sure who this is directed to, but I am always VERY curious and try to assist any nervous or novice competitors.

OK so if you don't think she is a cob, if I wear a funny hat and long stick to hack out I just say she's a polo pony

You can stick on a red nose and call yourself a clown for all I care"

Both your replies on these posts just came across as being "holier than though" and slightly out of order IMHO with the attitude?! Just didnt think is was necessary. JMHO though

wink.gif
Valid points and I wasnt commenting on that, just the attitude made you seem a little but confrontational unnecessarily? Sorry if have completely misread that
smile.gif

Like I said EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion. It is also very easy to mis read or read things in to written comments as you don't have the benefit of tone.

Yep not denying that
smile.gif
And as I said, valid opinions, I havent got a prob with that, just think the "Whatever" and "Really???" comments both sounded sarcastic and unnecessary. As I said, just my opinion, and agree it is very easy to misinterpret when comments are made in writing.
smile.gif
That is why I havent started being confrontational and have just stated things as I and a few others saw them I think
tongue.gif
wink.gif
I am quite happy to believe they were just meant in an off the cuff way, but the few attitudey words just seemed unnecessary IMO

We hogged the small riding horse after HOYS as we thought it would make his mane grow better ... wrong ... he has only now just got enough to get a few plaits in
blush.gif
crazy.gif
He did look terribly sweet being very wooly and hogged - like a cute little riding school pony with sweet itch ...

Well I know there are a lot of replies, but I think your horse is gorgeous, hogged or not, but personally I prefer hogged. Bodey is hogged and I love it, only problem is there is nothing to grab if it all goes wrong, he, he!
tongue.gif

I think people have got the wrong end of the stick, are you supposed to say you like something if you dont? I think it is better to be honest, its like when your mum has her hair done and you dont like it, do you tell her the truth, or say it looks nice and let her go out looking awful... personally no offence i dont like what you have done to your horse, but its your horse and you have to ride him!

No, you should say honestly. However, on a lighthearted thread like this was supposed to be, getting into a debate over whether it is/or is not a cob is pathetic.

On threads like this, there are ways that people can say they don't personally like it, without being seen to be a total b**ch, and thankfully a good few could manage this. Unfortunately, some didn't.
